A woman who sent former Tottenham star Son Heung-min an ultrasound photo of a baby she claimed was hers tried to blackmail him out of the equivalent of £153,000.
A woman who threatened former Tottenham star Son Heung-min has been sentenced to four years in prison. The woman, identified only as Mr Yang, was charged with extorting 300 million won (about £153,000) by claiming to be pregnant with Mr Song’s child.
In 2024, Yan sent the current Los Angeles FC forward an ultrasound photo of a baby he claimed was his and demanded a large sum of cash to keep him quiet. She then conspired with a man named Yong to obtain more money from Song.
The Central District Court in Seoul, South Korea, heard on Monday that Yang “lied” to Song, although she did not reveal whose child she was pregnant with. Yang has denied charges of extortion and attempted extortion, but will spend the rest of his time in prison.
Meanwhile, Yong admitted the charges. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
Judge Lim Jeong-bin said Mr Yang had taken “extreme measures” to defame Mr Song. Lim explained, “They did not limit themselves to simple threats and demands for money, but took further actions such as abusing Mr. Son’s position as a public figure and informing the media and advertising agencies.”

The judge added that Son had “suffered considerable mental distress as a result of the incident becoming public.”
His 33-year-old son was playing for Spurs at the time of the ordeal. The South Korean player, who will captain his country at the 2026 World Cup, spent 10 years with Tottenham in the Premier League.
Son, who is in the final year of his contract, moved to Los Angeles after Spurs accepted a £20m bid. With 12 goals in 13 games for the MLS club, the attacker continues to establish himself as one of Asia’s best athletes of all time.
LAFC, which also includes Son’s former Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris, finished third in the Western Conference this year. In the MLS playoffs, they lost to the Vancouver Whitecaps in a penalty shootout, during which Son Johnson missed the spot kick.
With the season over, the 33-year-old has been given the opportunity to officially bid farewell to Spurs. On Tuesday, he will appear in Tottenham’s Champions League game at home to Slavia Prague, where he will address supporters.
“When I announced the difficult decision to leave Spurs in the summer, it was in South Korea and there was no proper opportunity to say goodbye to the fans at the stadium,” Son explained.
“I am very happy now because I will be able to return to London for the Champions League game on December 9th and tell Spurs fans first-hand how much their support and love over the last 10 years has meant to me and my family. It will be emotional, but it is important for me and the club that this happens.”
