Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is in doubt after explosive comments about the club and manager Arne Slott. Saudi Arabia has now emerged as a potential destination for the player.
The Egyptian remained on the bench for Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday night, making it his third consecutive Premier League substitute appearance. He also finished second in the three games in which he did not get playing time.
Afterwards, Salah did not mince words in an explosive interview with reporters. “I don’t know what to say,” Salah said.
“It’s kind of funny, I couldn’t believe it. It’s a disappointing result for the team. We conceded a stupid goal. I was on the bench so I couldn’t help my teammates.”
“I couldn’t believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. This is the third time I’ve done this. I think it’s the first time in my career. I’m very disappointed. I’ve done a lot for this club over the years, especially last season. It’s like the club threw me under the bus.”
“That’s how I feel. Someone is trying to put all the blame on me. The club promised me a lot in the summer and now that I’m on the bench I can say they haven’t kept their promises.”
“I used to have a good relationship[with Slott]. Now we have nothing to do and I don’t know why. It seems like someone doesn’t want me at the club. I called my dad and mom and told them to come to the Brighton game.”
“It doesn’t matter whether I play or not. I’m going to enjoy it. I’m just going to Anfield before the Africa Cup of Nations and saying goodbye to the fans because you never know what’s going to happen when you’re there.”
In a recent episode of the Saudi program “Action with Waleed”, sports journalist Waleed al-Falazi spoke with football agent Gharm Al Omari about their expectations for Salah in the upcoming January transfer window. “I want him to be at Al-Ahly, but I expect him to go to Al-Hilal. It could be Al-Nasr,” he said.
These comments come after Egyptian head coach Hossam Hassan expressed support for Salah’s comments. The national team manager shared a photo with Salah and captioned it: “Always a symbol of determination and strength.”
The two will soon meet again and aim to win against Egypt in the African Cup of Nations. Liverpool have until Monday December 16 at the latest to release Salah for the competition, so his last game could be next weekend’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.
