Arsenal have cut their lead at the top of the Premier League to just two points, but defender Julian Timber thinks he knows one of the main reasons why.
Julian Timber has pointed to Arsenal’s growing injury list as the main reason for their recent poor form. The Gunners had a seven-point lead just over a month ago, but a tricky turn of events cut that advantage to just two points.
They have won just two of their last five league matches, beaten by Sunderland and Chelsea. Mikel Arteta’s side lost just their second game of the weekend as they lost to Aston Villa in the closing stages. And defender Timber believes Arsenal’s injuries this season have had a big impact.
Speaking after Saturday’s defeat at Villa Park, he said: “Yes, there is (disturbance). I think we have a great team. I think the players that come in always perform well, but obviously it’s not always easy.”
“You can’t play the same guys every week and if guys leave again, it’s going to be tough. But I think that’s part of it…that’s what happens during the season.”

“I think that happens at every club, it’s the same for us, we just have to manage it and win games.”
Arsenal currently have four stars restricted to the sidelines. Defenders Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba and Cristian Mosquera are all currently sidelined, while forward Kai Havertz has missed most of the season.
The Gunners have also seen Victor Gokeres, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus on the treatment table on a number of occasions. Despite this, Timber is not looking for excuses and believes defeat to Villa late at the weekend should give Arsenal fresh motivation as they aim to end their long wait to win the Premier League.

“I think ultimately we need to use that as motivation and ultimately as a strength, because that’s what happened and we need to accept it and improve,” he added.
“At the same time, I think you’re going to have moments during the season where you kind of have setbacks and setbacks, and then you just step up.”
Arsenal will take their focus off on winning the title this week as they travel to the Champions League against Club Brugge on Wednesday. Arteta’s side will have the perfect chance to get back to winning ways when they host rock-bottom Wolves at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.
