Manchester United are looking to add another midfielder to Ruben Amorim’s squad, with Crystal Palace and England star Adam Wharton at the top of their transfer list.
Adam Wharton plans to play in the Champions League as Manchester United plan to spend big on the midfielder. The Crystal Palace and England star is at the top of the Red Devils’ shortlist ahead of an overhaul of their United squad.
But none of the deals are likely to be cheap. Wharton, 21, is expected to cost around £70m if he leaves Crystal Palace in the near future.
As for the midfielder’s future, his agent James Featherstone admitted Wharton has ambitions to play at the highest level and plans are already in place to get him there.
In an interview with talkSPORT he said: “When he was at Blackburn we talked about being a star player and playing for England.
“So how do you get there? Personally, I think to play for England you have to play in the Champions League. To play in the Champions League you have to play for one of the top teams in the top league.”

“I think the jump to a Champions League team might be a bit of a hesitation. The underlying plan was to play for a Premier League team.”
“We have a plan. He’s 21 years old. Sometimes I have to check myself to remember that. It doesn’t have to be achieved yesterday, today or this moment.
“He has goals and objectives during the game, during the season. He has to do what he has to do. The rest will take care of himself in a very systematic and calm way to ultimately add value and maximize his abilities.”

Wharton has shined for Palace since joining from Blackburn Rovers last year. Since then, he has made 62 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles, helping them win the FA Cup and advance to Europe.
Wharton won three caps for the Three Lions under Thomas Tuchel and has gained international acclaim. The midfielder still has three-and-a-half years left on his contract at Selhurst Park.
He is not the only midfielder United are interested in signing. Brighton’s Carlos Baleva and Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher are also options for the Red Devils.
The arrival of any of the trio to Old Trafford in the near future could open the door for Koby Mainu’s departure. The academy graduate is reportedly considering leaving in January after falling out of favor under manager Ruben Amorim.
