The Premier League kicks off this weekend after a busy weekend of matches, but who will be absent due to injury or suspension?
Matchday 15 of the season begins on Saturday with Arsenal traveling to Aston Villa and will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and Discovery Plus (kick-off 12.30pm BST).

Manchester City face Sunderland later in the day, while Leeds United host Liverpool.

Also on Saturday, Chelsea will look to regain form against Bournemouth. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Fulham host Crystal Palace after West Ham’s trip to Brighton.

Manchester United conclude the weekend’s fixtures at Molineux against bottom-of-the-table Wolves. Who could be absent and who would be fit to play? Here’s the latest news from Premier League teams.

This article will be updated on Friday.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal: wait for Rice

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery says it remains unclear whether goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is fit to play after he was sent off midway through the World Cup winners’ 4-3 win over Brighton.

Second-choice stopper Marco Bizzotto is available on short notice and could feature again.

Emery said of Martinez’s injury: “He didn’t train yesterday. It’s important how he spends the next few hours. I don’t know if he’ll be able to play tomorrow.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the fitness of four of his first-team players ahead of their trip to Villa Park.

On Declan Rice’s availability, Arteta said: “Yes, we have another training session this afternoon. Every hour will be very important to confirm the availability of players, so after that we will decide who will travel.”

Regarding Cristian Mosquera, who left midway through the first half against Brentford, Arteta added: “It’s more complicated that way. We have to test him again today and see where he is.”

Leandro Trossard and William Saliba both remain sidelined, but Arteta said it would be “a matter of a few days” until they return.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea: Palmer to start?

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola said centre-back Veljko Milosavljevic has suffered a knee problem and will undergo tests after the 1-0 home defeat to Everton.

Marcos Senesi will be substituted after serving a one-match suspension, while David Brooks returns from his own suspension.

However, Lewis Cook is unavailable after picking up a red card against Sunderland (his second in three games), while Tyler Adams is handed a one-match suspension after receiving his fifth booking of the season last Tuesday night.

Chelsea have no new injury concerns but are expected to have defenders Wesley Fofana and Reece James back in the starting XI after receiving minutes in the 3-1 defeat to Leeds.

Enzo Maresca has also revealed that he regrets not using Josh Acheampong at Elland Road, meaning the 18-year-old could also be used.

Midfielder Romeo Lavia continues to be sidelined with a muscle problem and it is unclear when he will return, while Moises Caicedo will serve the second of a three-game suspension.

Cole Palmer came on midway through the second half against Leeds and is in contention to start.

Everton vs Nottingham Forest: Irogbunam suspended

Manager David Moyes said Everton could be without Michael Keane again, explaining that the centre-back picked up an injury against Newcastle and then missed the win at Bournemouth.

Moyes revealed that club captain Seamus Coleman will be sidelined for some time as the full-back is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in last month’s game against Manchester United, but did not specify how long.

Moyes also confirmed that midfielder Tim Irogbunam will be absent due to suspension, and pointed out that the squad was lacking for the game against Bournemouth last week and will likely be short-handed against Forest as well.

Idrissa Gueye will play the third and final game of his suspension, while Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring) and Marlin Rolle (hernia surgery) are long-term absentees with injuries.

Nottingham Forest team news continues.

Man City vs Sunderland: Rodri remains sidelined

Manager Josep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will continue to be unavailable for the game against Sunderland due to a thigh problem.

“No (he is unavailable), but he is getting better. I don’t know how long it will take, but he is at a stage where he will be ready within the next few weeks,” the Manchester City manager said.

Mateo Kovacic is not yet ready, while Guardiola has suggested full-back Nico O’Reilly could be rested for the next few weeks, although his form has now kept Rayan Ait Nouri out of the squad.

Regis Le Bris travels to the Etihad Stadium with his Sunderland side, who drew 1-1 with Liverpool.

Aji Arese, Khabib Diarra, Dennis Cirkin and Leo Helde remain absent.

Newcastle vs. Burnley: Wissa nears return

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe confirmed midfielder Sandro Tonali was tested after being sent off during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham in midweek, but said the Italian would be given “every chance” to declare fit in time.

Defender Sven Botman will be sidelined for a week after receiving an injection in his back.

Forward Yoan Ouissa has been ramping up his fitness after taking part in an 11-a-side match played behind closed doors this week. Howe did not rule out the possibility of the Democratic Republic of Congo featuring against the Clarets.

Burnley team news continues.

Leeds vs Liverpool: Bradley back in contention

Daniel James and Sean Longstaff remain sidelined with mid-term injuries, while Leeds manager Daniel Farke also pointed out that Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lucas Nmeka are doubts.

Coach Falke highlighted concerns about the players’ workload, particularly midfielder Ao Tanaka, and suggested that a rotation of the team is likely.

Liverpool manager Arne Slott has confirmed that full-back Conor Bradley has returned to training and could be available for selection. Joe Gomez is expected to feature, having played to the knockout against Sunderland.

Slott also did not rule out the possibility of leaving Mohamed Salah on the bench for a third consecutive game, but the Dutchman insisted the Egyptian was “always in mind to either start or come on as a substitute.”

Federico Chiesa, who scored a crucial goal-line clearance in the 1-1 draw with the Black Cats, is looking to get more minutes, with Slott adding on Friday: “Any player has the potential to start, we have a lot of options to start in his position. But he’s certainly made an impact off the bench a few times.”

Totteham vs Brentford: Bees big gun returns

Bournemouth manager Keith Andrews has recalled his first-team quartet of Igor Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Mikel Damsgaard and Nathan Collins after the squad was rotated during the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Andrews declared striker Thiago was in “good form” after limping off late in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Burnley.

Loan player Reiss Nelson was ineligible to play against his parent club at the Emirates Stadium but is available.

Tottenham team news continues.

Brighton vs West Ham: Tzimas out for several months

Brighton will be without Stefanos Tzimas due to what head coach Fabian Hürzeler has described as a “long-term injury”, which is expected to keep him out for several months.

Coach Hürzeler is hoping for good news from Yasin Ayari, who could be available, while Kaoru Mitoma will be an option after suffering a minor setback in practice.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta missed Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United and has returned to the squad after serving a one-match suspension.

Crisencio Somerville is expected to return to action soon, while Olly Scurls continues his individual training.

Igor Julio will not be able to take part in the selection as he is not eligible to play against his parent club.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace: too early for Muniz

Marco Silva has confirmed ahead of Crystal Palace’s visit that there are no new injury concerns.

Anthony Robinson and Rodrygo Muniz remain sidelined, but Muniz has started taking part in light training.

Silva remains unsure whether Robinson will be able to return before Christmas.

Wolves vs Manchester United: De Ligt likely to return

Manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that he expects Matthijs de Ligt to be available for Manchester United’s meeting with Wolves on Monday night.

De Ligt was one of three players absent from the team’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Thursday, having featured in the team’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last time out.

The Dutch defender was not included in the match-day squad for the game against the Hammers and was ruled out for the first time this season in the Premier League as he is expected to be out for an extended period due to a minor injury.

“It’s a small thing,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “I expect him to play in the next game.”

Diogo Dalot appeared to be bruised late in the game against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, but Ruben Amorim is confident the full-back will make it through safely.

More news about the team will follow.
