Manchester United have reportedly sent scouts to monitor Olympiakos’ coveted teenage midfielder Christos Moussatis during last week’s Champions League match against Real Madrid. Several top European clubs, including those in the Premier League, have recently expressed interest in the 18-year-old.
The young talent, who impressed in Olympiakos’ 4-3 loss to Los Blancos, has been under intense scrutiny from potential suitors. The Sun claimed United had “intensified their interest” in Mousakitis by sending a representative to Greece to watch him play. Strangely enough, Real Madrid are also thought to be monitoring the midfield genius’ progress, having witnessed his extraordinary skills.
Moussatis, who recently won the prestigious Tuttosport Golden Ball Web Award, is reportedly valued at around £40 million by Olympiakos.
However, his value is expected to increase further in the January transfer window as a number of clubs continue to keep an eye on him. These include Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Juventus, with Arsenal and Aston Villa also among Mousakitis’ Premier League fans.
It is unclear whether United intend to formalize their interest in Moussatis in the upcoming January transfer window, but there remain strong links with the other midfielder.
Ruben Amorim and his team are expected to focus next on strengthening United’s midfield after spending around £200m revamping the attack in the summer.
Carlos Bareva, Elliott Anderson and Adam Wharton are all rumored to be on the radar of United. Joao Gomez from Wolves is another name that has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but given the club’s current struggle at the bottom of the Premier League, a January signing could become more realistic.
But Gomez will not be on the pitch for Wolves, who face United in Manchester on Monday night. The £44m player is currently suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
