The Bruce family was devastated by the death of four-month-old baby Madison in October last year, but Steve’s daughter Amy gave birth to Beau.
Steve Bruce celebrated the birth of his grandson following his heartbreaking death in October last year.
The veteran manager and the entire Blues family were devastated after the loss of baby Madison, who died suddenly at just four months old. Now, Steve’s daughter Amy has just given birth to a son named Beau with her husband, former Fulham and Leeds striker Matt Smith. They also have a son, Lennon.
Amy’s brother Alex, 41, who played for Birmingham and Hull and is currently a first-team coach at Salford City, announced the news on his Instagram with the message: “Welcome to my new little nephew Bo xx.”
Steve revealed earlier this year that he felt he wanted to end his football career as he dealt with a family tragedy. In light of Maddison’s death, he and Alex stepped back from their roles at their respective clubs. Steve eventually returned to the Blackpool dugout as manager, but was sacked in October.
He told The Athletic: “There were times when I thought about not going back. I think people completely understood, but sometimes football gives me a little bit of an escape from everything.”

“This is the tragedy of all tragedies. I think everyone is going through similar grief. It’s horrible that a young, healthy boy doesn’t wake up one morning. We can never accept that. It hurts. Was it sidetracked from the grief? Maybe it is. The people here where I work have been great, and I didn’t want to let them down. They told me, ‘Slow down.’ Whether it was a month or five weeks, I was away. ”
After Madison’s death, a woman in her 40s who worked as a nanny was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. However, detectives later determined it was an accident and closed the investigation.
Greater Manchester Police said: “While the circumstances are tragic, we do not believe this death was criminally related.”
Steve claims that “there hasn’t been a day that hasn’t affected me yet.” “If anyone is going through a similar grief, I feel for them. It’s horrible to have a young, healthy boy who doesn’t wake up one morning.
