There are injury concerns for Liverpool and Sunderland ahead of Wednesday night’s Premier League clash at Anfield, with Arne Slott hoping to pick up another three points after West Ham’s win.
Liverpool will be without three players for Wednesday’s Premier League match against Sunderland at Anfield. The Dutch coach provided an update on the team’s fitness status at a press conference on Tuesday.
Connor Bradley has returned to training but is not yet ready to fight. Meanwhile, Jeremy Frimpong is inching closer to making a comeback after suffering a muscle problem in October.
“Conor took part in his first training session yesterday at team training,” Slott admitted. “We have to manage it little by little because he’s not 100 percent yet, so don’t get your hopes up too much or get too early. The good thing is he’s already doing certain things with the group.”

“I expect the same thing to happen with Jeremy next week. They’ll both be back, but unfortunately they’ll be playing a lot of games over the next few weeks. Jeremy will at least train with us, but he’ll miss at least three more games, for example. I hope Conor will be available for Leeds.”
With both players absent, Slott has been forced to use Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez at right-back for the past three games.
Another player who will not be available for this game is Giovanni Leoni, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in September, a long-term injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
“He’s not in good shape because he tore his ACL, so he’s going to be out for about a year,” Slott said at the time. “It’s very difficult to be positive because he’s so young, he came to a new country and he played very well in his first game.
“But when you look at it, he’s still very young and he still has many years to recover.”
Liverpool are not alone in dealing with player absences. Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris also shared an update on three of his players ahead of Wednesday night’s clash (kick-off 8.15pm).
Mohamadou Habib Diarra remains sidelined as he recovers from groin surgery. Meanwhile, Noah Sadiki sustained a facial injury against Bournemouth at the weekend, but Le Blis is optimistic he will feature.
“He has suffered and he is still suffering,” said the French coach. “He’ll be fine on Wednesday, but he was in pain.”
In other news, Dennis Cirkin and Leo Gjerde, who played for the Under-21s last week, are said to be making progress in their recovery. “The good news is they’re really close,” Le Bris added.
“Like Romaine a week ago. It’s very important that everyone is connected and at their best and ready.”
