Former Manchester United teammate Louis Saha tells Cristiano Ronaldo to stop rubbing shoulders with US President Donald Trump – because it won’t be in Ronaldo’s interests
Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be being used as a “political pawn” by US President Donald Trump. Portuguese legend Ronaldo caused a stir after he was photographed rubbing shoulders with President Trump at the White House.
The meeting took place just days before Ronaldo’s suspension from FIFA was revoked and he was cleared to take part in next summer’s North American World Cup.
And Louis Saha warned Ronaldo that by appearing alongside President Trump, he was giving support to an unpopular leader. And Saha believes Ronaldo could have asked President Trump to ask FIFA to reduce his suspension.

“I think so. Cristiano Ronaldo is still the most influential footballer on the planet. I don’t know if he understood the impact of that visit and the impact that that meeting would have,” Saha told Pundit Arena.
“I don’t usually comment on politics, but this may be perceived as supporting some of President Trump’s policies, and he may not have intended it to be perceived that way.
“The best time to do that would probably be early in his presidency, when there was less controversy.
“I’m surprised that Cristiano has chosen this. Compared to his previous career, this is something new for him.”
“I remember him pushing two bottles of soft drinks away at a press conference, and it started a storm, so he always had the ability to influence the wider world.”
