Emmanuel Emega is set to join Chelsea from Strasbourg in the summer but faces a new suspension after the move was not particularly well received by the French club’s fans.
Chelsea’s new forward Emmanuel Emega has been suspended just months after his transfer was confirmed. The 22-year-old is set to join the Blues from Strasbourg in France next summer.
For the time being, he will continue to represent Chelsea’s sister team, but fans have not taken the news well. They demanded Emega return his captain’s armband while labeling him a “Bruko pawn” on a stadium banner.
And things appear to be getting worse for the player, with Strasbourg confirming he has been suspended ahead of this weekend’s Ligue 1 game against Toulouse. A statement from the club said: “Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace has decided to suspend Emmanuel Emega for the next Ligue 1 match in Toulouse this Saturday, December 6th.
“This decision has been taken following a player’s recent failure to respect the club’s values, expectations and rules. Racing reaffirms its commitment to the important principles of exemplary behavior and respect for the collective framework.”
“Emmanuel remains an important member of our team and has always given his all for the club on the pitch. He will rejoin the team after this game. We will not be commenting further.”

Emega joined Strasbourg from Sturm Graz in 2023 and has since made 71 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals, seven of which came this season.
Speaking about his move to Chelsea, the player said: “This is the best thing for my career. I want to go as far as possible and play in the Champions League and the World Cup. I could have signed for a club in the Champions League this summer, but the overall project of Strasbourg and Chelsea appealed to me.”
“Now I want to lead Racing in Europe. We started something great with this group and I wanted to see it through to the end. This season I will give everything for the club. I also spoke to the coach and his opinion was important to me.”

Emega becomes the latest in a long line of players representing Chelsea and Strasbourg. Six players were signed from Chelsea in the recent summer transfer window, including Matthijs Amguu, Ben Chilwell, Mamadou Sarr, Kendry Paes and Mike Penders from the French side alone.
There was controversy surrounding Ishe Samuels-Smith’s permanent move to Strasbourg in July, but he returned to Chelsea a month later ahead of a loan move to Championship side Swansea City.
