The January transfer window is fast approaching and Arsenal could be the quietest team when the market reopens next month. The Gunners have invested heavily over the summer and are in a strong position in the squad. As a result, Mikel Arteta has a well-stocked bench and can bring in quality replacements in the event of an injury to the squad. With Arsenal leading the Premier League and performing well in both the Champions League and Carabao Cup, attention is likely to shift elsewhere over the winter.
Any activity is expected to result in either a departure or a future contract, allowing Andrea Berta to plan more strategic moves in other markets. This also includes next summer’s transfer window, which provides further opportunities for team rotation. Several star players are expected to leave, but the Gunners have already identified targets for next year, including a left winger.
All eyes are on Eintracht Frankfurt’s Gian-Mateo Bajoya, with Sky Sports Germany reporting that Arsenal have shown a strong interest in the 20-year-old.
Initial talks have already taken place, with the north Londoner said to have expressed interest in the winger to Frankfurt. However, the move appears to be planned for next summer rather than January.
Bajoya’s contract runs until 2029 and is currently worth around £61.2 million. He joined Frankfurt from Angers in 2024, paying the German side a transfer fee of around £7 million.
Since then, the young winger has appeared in 59 games for the club, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists.
As a right-footed player who plays on the left wing, he is adept at causing havoc for opposition full-backs both inside and outside, and has great promise for the future.
His potential move to Arsenal could provide depth, but given the strength of the Gunners’ wide range of options, he may not be able to make an immediate impact.
There is healthy competition for the left wing position, with Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Ebelesi Eze currently competing for the position. This is very important considering the number of matches and injury risk in all competitions.
However, these players are all at different stages of their careers. Trossard, who is in his early 30s, is at the peak of his career, but he will be nearing the end of his career in the next few years.
Eze, 27, is considered to be in his prime, while Martinelli, 24, is typically just reaching the peak of his playing career.
By signing a player like Bajoya, Arsenal are investing in a young talent who could have a long-term impact if he continues to develop.
Given the strength of their current squad, with key players in their prime, Arsenal seem open to making such a strategic move.
They recently signed teenage Ecuadorian twins Edwin and Holger Quintero from Independiente del Valle, who will officially join the club in 2027 when they turn 18.
