Mason Mount, who was the hero of Manchester United’s come-from-behind victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park over the weekend, has sent a message to his team-mates.
Manager Mason Mount has told his Manchester United teammates to be crowned Premier League set-piece kings and set their sights on a top-four finish. The midfielder was instrumental in the Red Devils’ come-from-behind victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend.
After Joshua Zirkzee’s equalizer, the former Chelsea man converted Bruno Fernandes’ short free-kick to score. Victory at Selhurst Park moved United into seventh place, three points off the top four.
And Mount believes qualifying for the Champions League should be a concrete goal for the team. “We’ve had our ups and downs, but I think we’re in a much better place, not only personally but as a group. We really need to start now and win more games. That’s the most important thing right now.”
“It was a difficult result in the last game (against Everton), but it was very important that we were able to come back and win today. So it’s time to really start aiming for a top-four position.”
United are currently aiming for a top-four spot, but have already won one title this season. Amorim’s side have already scored from a league-high 10 set-pieces, the same number as leaders Arsenal.

After finding the back of the net from his opponent, Mount expressed satisfaction with the Red Devils’ dead-ball threat. “I love being in those situations and especially in the Premier League, you don’t get that many chances in a game, so when you get that chance it’s important to take it and go for the goal and at least force the keeper to make a save,” he said.
“How big set-pieces are in the game now… Yeah, for me it’s very exciting to score a goal and see it go into the back of the net, score a goal and, most importantly, get the team three points.”
Mount is not the only player who has expressed the importance of set-pieces for United this season. Coach Amorim also suggested that it would be nonsense not to practice them, regardless of the opponent.

He said: “This is very important because in our league it is difficult to play against all opponents. You can sense the throw-ins, free-kicks, corner-kicks, score goals to start the game and give the team confidence. In the Premier League, if you don’t work on your set-pieces, you’ve already lost the game.”
United will be aiming for another win next week. They play West Ham on Thursday night and next Monday they face bottom of the table Wolves.
