Greater Manchester Police arrested five people on suspicion of assault at the Etihad on Saturday, and an investigation is underway with support from Manchester City.
A Manchester City supporter suffered a broken leg after a brawl broke out in one of the home sections during a Premier League game against Leeds United. Five people were arrested on suspicion of assault at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, and Greater Manchester Police are working with the club to investigate.
In addition to the 3,000 Leeds fans who made the short journey along the M62 to watch their team play, there were also away supporters in hospitality areas such as the Tunnel Club and 93:20. This is a result of the club’s policy of allowing fans of both teams, subject to appropriate behavior.
This created a very high atmosphere in the stadium, especially considering the drama that unfolded on the pitch. Leeds came back from a two-goal deficit in the second half and Phil Foden scored the winning goal late on.
Following reports that a City fan suffered a double leg fracture at the hands of a Leeds supporter in the home end, City launched an investigation in conjunction with GMP and took the unusual step of responding directly via social media.
Man City Fan Support issued a statement on X: “We are aware of an incident between a group of fans at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.”

“Information provided to the club by the relevant authorities and our internal investigation can confirm that no Leeds fans were involved in this incident and that the injuries were not as serious as the inaccurate rumors circulating online.
“This matter is currently the subject of a police investigation.”
Nevertheless, the account was quickly challenged in a letter supported by nine supporter groups, including the Official Supporters Group and City Matters (an official fan board that regularly meets with the club on a variety of issues).
The letter referred to a “brutal attack” in which a supporter suffered a fractured tibia and called on the club to carry out a comprehensive investigation into how such an incident was allowed to occur.
Their statement continued: “We note that the club is scheduled to play at home in January against Galatasaray, a club with a history of winning tickets in the home end.
“We urge the club to urgently review tickets for this match, particularly with a view to ensuring the safety of all fans in attendance.”
The Manchester Evening News can confirm that the City supporter suffered a broken leg, and an investigation is ongoing from the club and GMP.
