Liverpool are set to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in the summer and will maintain interest if the deal falls through, but could face more competition
Spanish giants Atletico Madrid will join Liverpool in the summer race to sign Marc Guehy. The Reds have long been fans of the defender and were on the verge of signing him just a few months ago.
They had agreed a deal with Palace and Guehi was due to undergo a medical ahead of a potential transfer. However, the Eagles withdrew after failing to sign a replacement.
Guehi is expected to stay at Selhurst Park until at least January, and could assess the remainder of his contract before potentially moving to Bosman at the end of the season. Liverpool remain interested in the defender but could face further competition if they reconsider his contract.
According to reports in Italy, Spain’s Atletico Madrid are also among the teams currently eyeing him. But they are not the only European team chasing him, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich also eyeing his arrival.
Asked about Guehi’s future, Palace chairman Steve Parish said last month: “We needed to keep Marc because the difference between having a great season and having a season where we risk relegation is the difference between winning five games and not winning five games.”

“So the gap in the Premier League is very tight and we have to remember that if Michael (Olise) leaves, we are fine, if Ebus (Eberechi Eze) leaves, we are fine, if Wilfried (Zaha) leaves, we are fine. There are limits to how long you can go on like that before you destroy the structure of the team.”
He added: “It was a very last-minute decision. Marc was a great person. Liverpool made an offer. It was a huge club and he was obviously interested in leaving. But if it was the decision we had made, he would have been fine with staying.”
“Obviously, that means as a player the ball is all in his court and he can choose where he wants to go. It was a very difficult game, but I think it was definitely the right game.”

Liverpool’s need for a centre-back could increase further in the summer as Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires at the end of the season. However, in good news, Real Madrid have confirmed that they will not pursue him.
Meanwhile, Guehi could be looking ahead to his final months as a Crystal Palace player. The England star has made 176 appearances for the club since joining from Chelsea in 2021.
