Liverpool put behind them a disastrous defeat to PSV Eindhoven in midweek and took all three points with manager Arne Slott’s victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Alexander Isak finally looked fit as Liverpool beat West Ham 2-0 in the Premier League.
The Swedish striker, who joined from Newcastle for £125 million in the summer, only had one goal to show for it in the Carabao Cup, but a superb second-half strike and Codi Gakpo’s goal in stoppage time led Liverpool to a much-needed victory at the London Stadium.
After the Brazilian was challenged by referee Darren England and sent off for a second groan, he was helped midway through by Lucas Paqueta, but was duly sent off.
The result means Arne Slott’s side ended a three-game losing streak in all competitions and returned to the top half of the Premier League.
Here are the Reds’ ratings in London…

Alisson Becker – 6
The most dangerous moment of the entire match was when he was taken down by Gomez in the first half.
Joe Gomez – 8
He had a good sense of positioning to cover when needed before the break, and regularly came forward to create the first goal and assist the second. It was a great performance in his return.
Ibrahima Konate – 6
Opting to keep things simple with solid defending, West Ham conceded the ball to him most of the time.
Virgil van Dijk – 7
In the first half they looked for a diagonal attack to put Liverpool ahead, and in the final quarter they tested their defence.
Milos Kerkes – 7
Plenty of energy and attacking in both directions down the left flank, methodical enough to handle the ball more than defend himself against the dangerous Bowen. With subtitles.
Ryan Gravenbirch – 7
More confidence and attacking purpose than in recent weeks, with occasional bursts of acceleration in the first half and more of a role thereafter.
Alexis Mac Allister – 6
They used the ball well in the first half, but their lack of mobility was an issue at times. It’s clean enough when you have it.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 7
Ostensibly operating on the right-wing, he hasn’t had much of an impact of late until his lung-busting runs forced him into the second position.
Florian Wirtz – 8
He played a central role and was Liverpool’s most creative player, playing a key role in the opening game. We found a good space and tested the first half of Arreola. With subtitles.
Kodi Gakpo – 8
Tuch were demoralized by one pass from Wirtz, but they overcame a lot of work and the layoff created opportunities for Isak and Wirtz, who then scored the first goal and then the second.
Alexander Isaac – 7
In the first half, before he could score his trademark first goal of the opening game, he was denied by a fine save from Arreola. It seemed like he had at least met his teammates before the game. With subtitles.
