Patrick Dorg is on a strict disciplinary line and could be suspended for Manchester United’s game against West Ham if he receives another yellow card against Crystal Palace on Sunday. This came after the defender’s Instagram account liked a social media post mocking manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical decisions.
The 21-year-old left-back’s account responded to a post by ‘mufcunion’ criticizing Amorim’s use of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro as a midfield partnership. The post featured a comment from X, who said: “Managers who see Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as potential pivots are not serious.” The Instagram caption read, “Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro can’t play together,” and received “likes” from Dorg’s account.
The Danish defender faces his own concerns ahead of the match against Palace. If the full-back is booked against the Eagles, he will be ruled out of United’s home game against West Ham on Thursday.
Amorim has yet to publicly address Dorg’s social media activity, but given United’s current struggles, the Portuguese manager has more pressing matters at hand. The Red Devils currently occupy 10th place, although they have fallen down the table after some disappointing results.
The Old Trafford side have had an excellent start to the season, recording wins against Liverpool, Brighton and Sunderland during a remarkable winning streak. However, draws against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest halted that momentum, and the team lost 1-0 against Everton, completely derailing their gears.
Despite Everton being reduced to 10 men in the 13th minute after Idrissa Gueye was sent off for an altercation with teammate Michael Keane, United were unable to capitalize on their numerical advantage and lost through Keenan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal in the 29th minute.
Fifth-placed Palace have been given a new challenge and United must perform at their highest level against last season’s FA Cup champions.
With the Red Devils failing to qualify for Europe this season and focusing solely on domestic competition, Amorim is demanding a full squad to help the club move up the table.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match against Palace, Amorim said: “It’s very easy because they are a different club (to us) and they are doing better than us.”
“We play differently, but they just do things better than us. They do things really well and they play better than us in transition. We have to take all these things into account when we compare teams, but of course we can perform much better in any position.”
When asked if his side benefited from not taking part in European matches, the Portuguese coach added: “I said the same thing last year when I was in Europe and I will say the same thing this year. There are advantages and disadvantages to not being in Europe. There are no excuses. We must always win games.”
