Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has given an emotional assessment after putting Arne Slott under pressure in the Reds’ 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Curtis Jones has slammed Liverpool’s appalling performance as “unacceptable” in an incensed interview. The Reds midfielder was visibly frustrated after Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Liverpool lost to PSV at Anfield, their ninth defeat in their last 12 games. The assault intensified criticism and put more pressure on head coach Arne Slott.
Jones was left stunned by yet another capitulation from the reigning Premier League champions, with Wednesday’s defeat meaning Liverpool have now conceded 10 goals in their last three games. “I don’t know, I don’t have an answer. I’m like everyone else,” Jones said in an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE.
“To be honest, I can’t accept it. Like I said, I don’t even have words. I’m past the stage of being angry and sad, and I’m at a stage where I can’t even find words.

“It’s hard to find words. I’m a player and a fan and I see it this way, but I’ve never experienced such bad team play and a result like this.
“At the end of the day, we still have that badge on our chest. Until that badge is gone, we will always fight and try to take this team to where it should be and show why Liverpool are the best team in the world. But for now, we are at our lowest and that needs to change.”
Although it was Liverpool’s second loss in this competition, they remain in the Champions League play-offs. But Slott believes his position as head coach has been the subject of speculation following Liverpool’s recent losing streak.
After Saturday’s defeat to Nottingham Forest, they faced another big test when Ivan Perisic scored from the penalty spot for PSV within five minutes after a handball from Virgil van Dijk. Dominik Szoboszlai, one of Liverpool’s standout performers this season, came on at a crucial moment to equalize after 16 minutes, giving the home side momentum.
Hugo Ekitike, Codi Gakpo and Van Dijk threatened to put Liverpool ahead before half-time. Their dominance continued after the interval, with Alexis Mac Allister and Gakpo almost finding the back of the net, but soon after a mistake from Milos Kerkes allowed Guus Till to put PSV back in the lead.
A mistake from Ibrahima Konate then allowed the visitors to break through, with Kuhaib Driwes eventually scoring the opening goal of the match. In stoppage time, Dorihues scored the second goal with a superb shot, giving PSV their fourth goal.
As a result, Slott faces increasing pressure to address the issues that have held Liverpool back all season. Asked about speculation about his position as Liverpool’s head coach, Slott said: “I don’t think it matters whether it’s fair or not. But it’s normal and I understand that.”
“When coaches around the world lose a football match, let alone one that we lose, it’s normal for people to have an opinion about it, and it’s up to other people to decide whether it’s fair or unfair.
“But that’s normal. I think when you lose too many times people start talking about it. I don’t agree with the idea that the quality[of Liverpool’s players]is not showing.”
“I’ve seen enough moments where the players have shown their quality, but it’s clear that it’s not reflected in the scores and results. But no, I’m not worried. What I’m saying is that I’m more focused on other things than worrying about my position.”
“I’m trying to analyze and help the players as much as I can. It’s obviously not the way it was last season, because when you talk about individual errors, I think it comes from a team effort. So, again, I have to get better and that’s what I’m trying to do every day to improve the team, and to be honest, that’s my main focus.”
