Jamie Carragher was seen furious during Liverpool’s humiliating defeat against PSV in an off-screen phone call, calling for Arne Slott to be sacked.
Jamie Carragher has launched an angry rant, saying Arne Slott should be sacked by Liverpool for continuing to select Ibrahima Konate. The Reds icon was caught ranting about Slott and Konate in an explosive radio call at CBS Studios on Wednesday night.
Frenchman Konate once again came into the spotlight after making a series of mistakes in the 4-1 humiliation of PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. The embarrassing loss was the third in a row and ninth in the past 12 games, and Slott was under serious pressure to save his job.
Coach Slott replaced Konate in the second half with midfielder Federico Chiesa. Carragher, who was on pundit duties for CBS Sports, was furious to see his former team put to the sword.
Carragher’s behind-the-scenes reaction to Liverpool’s demolition was revealed in a video uploaded to CBS Sports’ Facebook page. After PSV’s first goal, the Reds icon was caught saying of Virgil van Dijk: “That was a handball. His hand went up. What is he doing?” “What the hell is going on here? Oh my god…”

He could then be heard saying, “Oh, fuck you, you idiot,” before shouting at Konate, who was largely responsible for PSV’s third goal. “Oh my god, Konate. Oh my god, Konate. Look, Konate, here. Oh my god, I’ve had enough of you, honest to God, you Konate.”
The fiery former Liverpool defender was then seen making the call and slamming into the slot. “So that’s a sackable offense for the manager. He keeps picking on him, and for that he should be sacked. They scored again, 4-1. What is this, 9 out of 12?”
Even after Slott led the Reds to Premier League glory in his first year in charge, there was much debate as to whether he was the right man for the job. Despite spending more than £400m on new players, the team has struggled to strengthen their attacking line-up and their performances have been sluggish.
However, Mirror Football understands that Liverpool are not considering an imminent decision to part ways with Slott.
Liverpool’s expensive new signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirths have been the focus of criticism, while key players such as Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk have also been criticized for their lack of performance.
The partnership between Konate and Van Dijk has also come under intense scrutiny, with Liverpool conceding 10 goals in their last three games. Mr Carragher was furious and demanded Mr Slott’s head, despite insisting the Reds manager needed more time.
“Liverpool are not a club to make redundancies,” Carragher told CBS. “Liverpool are different from almost every club in European football where the manager is king. They are given time. Liverpool have never sacked a manager who has won the league. Never in their history have they resigned after a few years.
“When I spoke to Liverpool supporters at the weekend after losing at home to Nottingham Forest, I couldn’t believe people were talking about the manager’s job and that’s only going to increase now.”
“I’ve always been in the camp of following the manager. To be honest, I’m really angry with the players. But with any manager at any club, you always get to the point where I use the word ‘I can’t stand’. I can’t go on any longer. In terms of managers, I’m not there personally yet, but I know a lot of supporters will be.”
The pressure is already mounting on the Dutch head coach, who needs to get Liverpool back to winning ways in Sunday’s Premier League trip to West Ham. Otherwise, the curtain may rise soon.
