Manager Arne Slott has provided an update on the injury status of three Liverpool players ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game against West Ham.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott has confirmed positive injury news for Alisson Becker, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, confirming that all three could be available for this weekend’s game. Liverpool resume play on Sunday when they face West Ham United in the Premier League.
The Reds are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their last three games. Slott’s team lost 4-1 at home against PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Ekitike was forced to leave the match due to injury. The forward was replaced in the 20th minute by summer signing Alexander Isak.
He joins midfielder Wirtz and goalkeeper Alisson amid injury concerns. However, Slott had good news for all three ahead of the team’s return to action.
“Alison has been training with the team and we expect him to be fit,” he said at the pre-match press conference. “Florian will have his final rehabilitation tomorrow, so if everything goes well he will be able to train on Saturday.
“Hugo, today was a recovery period, but they don’t expect it to be a big problem. Well, the game is early, but it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Joe Gomez did not feature as a substitute in the midweek game, but it was revealed that he did not practice before the game due to a knee injury. Another positive update from the slot defender.
“He’s close and could have played a few minutes yesterday, but when we’re down 2/3-1, I tend to come on as an attacking substitute,” he said. “So there’s definitely a chance he’ll start.
“(Ibrahima) Konate didn’t practice two days ago. There was a risk because he had a responsibility before the game. So we decided to keep him there in case Igbou got injured.”
Liverpool’s loss against PSV was their third consecutive defeat, following last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The Reds have lost five of their last seven games in all competitions due to their strong run of form.
They have now lost six of their last seven games in the Premier League. Despite the team’s success last season, the pressure is on Slott.
Asked if he had spoken to sporting director Richard Hughes since Wednesday night’s loss, he said: “We’ve had the same conversation since I’ve been here.
“I’m not sure if I said it last night, but we’re fighting to get better. The conversation is the same as it has been for the past year and a half.”
Asked if he was disappointed with the team, he said: “No, not at all. But I agree that Out Standard is not up to the standards that we are used to and that we want. But when we did so well last year, there was a focus on certain individuals, but I have always said it’s about the group.”
