PSG 5-3 Tottenham: Randal Kolo Muani scored twice for Spurs against his parent club, with Richarlison also on the scoresheet, but Vicinha’s hat-trick gave the hosts three points.
Tottenham were the ones responsible for their own downfall in the goal-scoring Champions League game against PSG, when they twice took the lead and lost. Randall Kolo Muani’s brace against his parent club and Richarlison’s header in the first half were not enough against the title holders and Vitinha ruled the roost in Paris with a hat-trick, along with further goals from Fabian Ruiz and Willian Pacho. Spurs came into the game coming off a humiliating defeat in the North London derby, but underdog Thomas Frank named a much-changed line-up in Paris, including teenagers Lukas Bergvall and Archie Gray in midfield against the famous hosts. The two Tottenham 19-year-olds linked up immediately and scored a stunning team goal in the 35th minute. Bergvall sent Gray into the box and he chipped a cross at the back post that found Kolo Muani, on loan from PSG, who the Frenchman headed home for Richarlison to score.

PSG undid all of Spurs’ good first-half work in stoppage time. From a short corner kick, Vicinha fired a rocket from the edge of the box, and his shot went over the underside of the crossbar and into the net. However, the away team regained the lead five minutes into the second half. Pedro Polo fired a deep corner that Richarlison headed into Gray’s path. The teenager’s flicked shot hit the crossbar with the head of a PSG defender on the line and bounced off for Kolo Muani to volley home. Thanks to that Vicinha, the lead was only 3 minutes. The Portuguese midfielder cut inside from the right and this time fired into the top corner with his left foot. Tottenham then gave PSG the momentum in the 59th minute. Captain Cristian Romero’s dangerous pass out gave Pape Matar Sarr the ball and Joao Neves pulled past Luiz and slotted home into the empty box. Six minutes later, a corner kick ended in a scramble in the box, and Pacho got in front of Sarr and smashed the ball into the net.
But the Spurs weren’t down yet. Rodrigo Bentancur picked up Vicinha inside PSG’s half and the ball was passed to Kolo Muani, who ran in and scored his employer’s second goal.
But more drama ensued when Vicinha’s shot hit Romero’s outstretched arm inside the box and the Portuguese converted the resulting penalty with 14 minutes left to complete the treble and end Tottenham’s hopes of a comeback.
In stoppage time, Lucas Hernandez elbowed former PSG player Xavi Simons in the face, and there was still time for the hosts to receive a red card.
