Liverpool have had a disastrous two seasons under manager Arne Slott, and despite their poor form, Reds icon Steven Gerrard doesn’t believe the Reds are still in crisis.

Steven Gerrard has denied claims of a Liverpool crisis but believes a crisis could materialize unless results improve. The Reds are in dire form under manager Arne Slott.

Things got even worse on Wednesday night as the reigning Premier League champions were thrashed 4-1 by Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League at Anfield.

This means the Reds have lost nine of their last 12 games in all competitions, and their hopes of winning a silver medal look further and further away with each passing week. However, despite the form, Liverpool legend Gerrard believes it is a bit premature to call a crisis.

“Every time you lose, especially depending on how you lose, you get closer to a crisis. I don’t like to use the word crisis because for me a crisis is a club that takes years to get back to the top.

“I don’t think Liverpool are at that point at all. They still have some great players. These are still the majority of the team that won the league a few months ago.”

“So I think there’s too much of a sense of crisis. But there’s no denying that this team is really struggling.”

Gerrard’s assessment comes just weeks after Roy Keane claimed Liverpool had already reached a crisis point following their defeat to Manchester City. He also suggested Slott’s side were not favorites to win the Premier League.

He said: “At the moment we can’t think of Liverpool in terms of the Premier League title, it’s been five defeats.

“I think this season is a period of crisis for Liverpool. It must be a crisis for a team like Liverpool to have lost five league games this season and lost seven of 10.

“Defensively they are in great shape, the full-backs are a big problem and the centre-half (Ibrahima Konate) is nervous.

“You see players dangling their legs and that’s not what champions do. Put your body on the line. If you’re not doing well as a team and you don’t get the basics right a little bit, it’s going to be difficult to stop crosses and play against them. From Liverpool’s point of view, how badly do they want that?”

Liverpool will be looking to turn their run of form around this weekend when they take on struggling West Ham. Another defeat could leave Liverpool just three points clear of the relegation zone heading into a busy festive period with games in both the Premier League and Europe.
