Both players were named in the starting XI for the defeat against Everton, with Casemiro withdrawing just before the 60th minute and being replaced by Coby Mainu.
However, Voss’ choice within the current formation does not seem to have universal approval within the team. Dorg liked a recent Instagram post suggesting that Fernandes and Casemiro are not compatible as midfield partners and should not play together.
An upload from the account ‘mufcunion’ featured a screenshot taken from X and read: “Coaches who see Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as potential pivots are not serious.”
The Instagram post was captioned: “Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro can’t play together” and received approval from Dorg, who joined the Manchester outfit from Lecce for £25 million earlier this year. The wing-back has featured in 12 games in all competitions this season, registering one assist in that time.
Fernandes and Casemiro have been a formidable duo for Manchester United this season, starting together in 10 of the club’s 13 games in all competitions. The only exceptions were the Carabao Cup second round match against Grimsby Town, when we made a significant rotation of the squad, and the two Premier League matches against Brentford and Manchester City.
For these matches, Manuel Ugarte was chosen as Fernandes’ partner in Casemiro’s absence. However, as Casemiro was suspended after receiving a red card in the previous match against Chelsea, his selection for the game against Brentford was forced into action.
Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain as his contract expires. Despite having a better season than last season, it remains to be seen whether the 33-year-old Brazilian will extend his stay at the Red Devils.
This uncertainty led to United being linked with several midfield additions over the summer, including Brighton’s Carlos Baleva. Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson has also been recently talked about as a potential target for the January transfer window.
However, Dorg’s social media activity criticizing the manager’s selection decisions does not bode well for the team or Amorim himself.
