After spending big in the summer, Liverpool are already making transfer plans for January, with Antoine Semenyo on the agenda after his release fee proved attractive.
Liverpool are already working on a big-money deal for Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window. The Reds are already in “concrete discussions” about a move in the winter window as they struggle in the Premier League.
Arne Slott’s side spent more than £450m signing players such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirths in the summer, but have lost six of their last seven games in the top flight. And it looks like more spending will be on the table in January as they look to turn their season around.
Bournemouth star Semenyo’s contract runs until 2030, but he has a release clause worth up to £65m that comes into effect from January after agreeing a new contract at the end of last season. According to Sky, Liverpool are also keeping an eye on it.
The Merseyside club will face competition from Manchester United, but Manchester City will be watching the situation unfold. The Ghanaian international is understood to have met with United manager Reuben Amorim before re-signing with the Cherries.
Semenyo has already scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 games this season, but missed out on the draw between Bournemouth and West Ham. The attacker’s form will be a boon for Liverpool, who sit 12th in the table with just two goals in their last three games.

However, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is yet to discuss Semenyo’s possible departure. “We’re in November,” he said last week.
“Antoine is our player and will continue to be our player. You can ask me in January about the January market, but at the moment I’m not worried about the next market.”
“Especially in August, as you know, in January, when the market is open, I don’t want to talk about it, but now is not the time. It’s November. I’m more concerned about the situation of the players who are going to play tomorrow, the short term, what’s really important. And in January, no matter what happens, we’re going to talk about the players that we need. But that’s not what I’m worried about today.”
It has been suggested that adjustments to profit and sustainability rules to team cost ratios could make Bournemouth more vulnerable to signing Semenyo in January. Clubs will be allowed to spend 85% of their football revenue and profit or loss on players, with a multi-year 30% allowance to foster even greater “ambition”.
Bournemouth, Brighton, Palace and Brentford are said to have voted against the changes, along with Fulham and Leeds United.
Semenyo recently claimed that he is trying to minimize the noise surrounding his future. He said: “I don’t really think about it.
“I try to stay present as much as possible. You’re always watching the news, and so am I. I’m not oblivious, but I try to stay focused.”
