Jamie and Rebecca Vardy’s Italian holiday home has reportedly been targeted by thieves who made off with £80,000 worth of valuables. Vardy was away with Cremonese during Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Serie A giants Roma when his villa was attacked by attackers.
A British man who moved to Italy in the summer moved into a villa on the shores of Lake Garda in the Italian Alps, where he lives with Rebecca. According to the Daily Mail, the three men fled with a number of valuable items. Reports reveal the men stole watches, including a Philippe Patek watch, jewellery, and more than £80,000 in cash.
A police source told the magazine: “The gang had been monitoring him and his family and believe they timed the break-in to coincide with his trip to Rome.”
Inspector Giacomo Tessarolo, of Salo’s local Carabinieri police, said: “We have a security camera that shows a person breaking into the house through an open window.”
“They were on the premises for a few minutes and then fled with a watch and several other valuable items. There was a woman inside, but she was a babysitter, not his wife.
“The theft was discovered when some of Mr Vardy’s friends returned to the house and found items on the floor. It had clearly been broken into.”
Salo is located just west of the scenic Italian lake in Lombardy, about 80 miles from Cremona, where he currently plays. Vardy’s contract with Leicester, where he played for 13 seasons, expired and he moved to Italy in the summer.
The former Foxes star, who is currently playing for the Italian side on a 12-month contract, had the word ‘Becky’ tattooed on the back of his shirt during the match against Roma as part of a campaign against domestic violence.
