Former Chelsea star Yang Gue-ho is in intensive care after sustaining serious injuries in a knife attack in a south-eastern suburb of Paris. A man has been charged with attempted murder in France following an incident that took place between November 9th and 10th.
Guejo spent two years in Chelsea’s academy from 2009 to 2011 and was considered one of the most talented French footballers of his generation as a teenager. He spent his early youth career with Lille before spells with Nantes and Paris FC. However, in the end he was not able to build a successful career in senior football.
The Creteil public prosecutor’s office confirmed to The Athletic that a judicial investigation was opened on November 12 following the incident, and a man was charged with attempted murder and gang assault.
A woman has also been charged with gang violence and has been placed as an assistant witness for attempted murder. The two were taken into custody.
The attack occurred while Guého was with a friend in Choisy-le-Roi. The 31-year-old remains in intensive care in a French hospital.
Geho was expected to succeed at the top level due to his outstanding talent in soccer.
Former Chelsea youth coach Adi Viveash said of his former player three years ago:
“Jan would nutmeg someone and then try to turn it back on. But it wasn’t just the nutmeg. He could flip a nutmeg into the air, knock it over someone’s head, and volley it back over someone’s head as they went toward the ball.”
“His ability to really take the mickey out of opponents at the age of 15 or 16 was pretty scary. It was like freezing players out.
“He went around them, over them, and through them. It was like watching a skateboarder try different tricks. I haven’t seen much like that.”
Former Chelsea academy team-mate Alex Davie added: “I’m grateful to have been able to watch Jan play every week. I can say that from the bottom of my heart.”
“It may sound strange to say that about a young kid, but you’ll never meet a player like that again, a player that good. If he was still playing, he would 100 percent be the best player in the world right now.”
