Tottenham hero Les Ferdinand shared his thoughts on watching Ebelesi Eze score a hat-trick after starting his Arsenal career before kick-off in the North London derby.
Ebelesi Eze was left speechless by Les Ferdinand after Arsenal scored an incredible hat-trick as they beat Tottenham 4-1 in the north London derby. Eze was the star of the show on Sunday afternoon as the Gunners continued to completely dominate the game and move six points clear at the top of the Premier League.
After Leandro Trossard opened the scoring, Eze took center stage with three confident and calm finishes that found the back of the net. Richarlison lobbed David Raya to score a surprising consolation goal for Spurs from distance, but that was all the fans cheered.
Eze has scored six goals in four games against Spurs during his career, and Tottenham’s failed attempt to sign him from Crystal Palace in the summer will not be forgotten by Thomas Frank and others. Ferdinand was instrumental in Eze’s development as director of football when he signed for QPR in 2016, and he shared his thoughts before kick-off.
“I took him to QPR and I immediately felt he had talent. He’s a player we felt we could continue with. In terms of going to Crystal Palace and then going here (Arsenal), he’s done that,” Ferdinand said on Sky Sports. “I’ve often said that I feel he could have gone from QPR to one of the bigger clubs.

“But I think he came to Arsenal and played with the handbrakes on, that’s what I call him. I think there’s more to him than that. Arsenal bought him because of his composure, the way he plays, his attitude and the way he is. I feel he has a lot more to his game.”
Asked to clarify his comments about Handbrake, he added: “There’s a lot more to come from him. It’s almost like he came to Arsenal and is working his way up, rather than saying, ‘I’m the man, look what I can do.'” He seems to be working towards it. I think he has a lot more to offer.
“Every time I look at him, I think, ‘Come on, Eze, you’ve got more than this.’ He’s got what it takes to unlock teams playing in the low blocks. I just haven’t seen him do it enough.”
Eze certainly performed well on Sunday and could have scored four goals if not for a good save from Guglielmo Vicario in the closing stages. He entered the game having scored two goals in an Arsenal shirt and has made three assists in 16 appearances with five games remaining.
“It was a great one-man effort. It was a fun day. I’m happy to help the team and today’s win was special,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s special. I’m grateful. I prayed for it. This is my prayer. I prayed for a hat trick, so I thank God.”
“That was my prayer today. God gave it to me. That’s faith. My whole family is here. That makes it even more special to me.”
