Marcelo Bielsa could make a surprise return to the Premier League in the coming months, with the legendary former Leeds United manager currently in charge of Uruguay.
Marcelo Bielsa could make a successful return to the Premier League in the coming weeks, but that may not be the case at Leeds United. The Argentine icon led Los Blancos to the top flight and enjoyed a successful first season before finally retiring a year later in 2022.
Whatever the outcome, Bielsa remains a hero at Elland Road and supporters are still dreaming of his return. It is unclear whether this will become a reality in the near future. This is especially because Daniel Falke has been under intense scrutiny.
According to Patreon’s Alan Nixon, quoted by Leeds Live, Bielsa could return to English football within the next 12 months, with “several” Premier League clubs closely monitoring his situation. The 70-year-old is currently the Uruguay national team manager and is preparing for next summer’s World Cup.

Despite his qualification being secured, there is growing uncertainty surrounding Bielsa’s future after he recently held a press conference to address his position. He markedly described himself as “toxic”, but insisted he had no intention of resigning before the World Cup and would follow through on his original agreement.
Asked if he had been asked to resign as Uruguay’s representative, he said: “The content of the conversation. I spoke for many hours with the president and with Jorge (Giordano).” “The conclusion of the conversation is that the project will continue as planned until the World Cup.”
“This is the summary and final conclusion of my conversation with the president. Therefore, I will pass on that information. That is the end of the conversation.”
This suggests his future may lie elsewhere, with England’s top clubs reportedly monitoring a potential summer move. It remains unclear whether Leeds will be among those stakeholders, especially given the increased scrutiny the Yorkshire organization is currently facing.
Falke’s position is under pressure as Los Blancos slipped into the drop zone at the weekend. The defeat against Aston Villa was another painful setback for the German manager.
The team took the lead with a goal from Lucas Nmeka, and after the break Morgan Rogers scored a brace. The jeers echoing around Elland Street highlighted the growing frustration among supporters who want improvements in the weeks and months ahead.
Whether that improvement requires a new face on the hot seat remains to be seen, but the heat is definitely on the rise. Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have the next three top-flight games in hand, and there will be little respite from the back-to-back games.
If the slump continues, the pressure will only intensify. It’s still unclear whether that will force the 49ers to move on, given their support for Falke thus far.
However, with each successive loss, the possibility of restructuring becomes more and more likely.
