TNT Sports is reportedly set to lose Champions League rights and American broadcaster Paramount+ will take over showing matches in the UK.
TNT Sports has reportedly lost the rights to broadcast the Champions League and will stop showing European soccer’s top competition from 2027. The Times reported that the broadcaster has stopped showing Champions League football in the UK, with rival broadcaster Paramount+ poised to take over.
TNT has been hosting the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League since 2015/16, having acquired the rights thanks to an £873m deal they took over from Sky Sports in 2013. Paramount+ has invested heavily in movies and entertainment since its founding, and has recently begun expanding its catalog of sports action.
U.S.-based viewers can now watch the Champions League through the platform, and it recently signed a deal with the UFC to broadcast the mixed martial arts organization’s events. Paramount+ is believed to be bidding to acquire rights in other major European countries as well.

The bidding process for the rights is being conducted by Relevent Football and is said to be a very complex operation. It is also understood that bids are being made all at once for the rights to the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
TNT will lose the rights to broadcast the Champions League, but will retain rights to Premier League matches and the FA Cup. The result of this reform could be that soccer fans will have to sign up to a separate subscription service if they want to watch Champions League football.
Meanwhile, Amazon Prime is set to have first pick for Tuesday’s matches in Europe’s major competitions thanks to a new streaming deal with UEFA.
The brand currently has a three-year deal to exclusively broadcast the competition’s first 17 matches each season.
This comes as domestic football is also suspended and the Champions League is scheduled to resume after a two-week international break.
Tuesday’s matches will see Ajax take on Benfica, Galatasaray against Union Saint Giroise, Bodo/Glimt against Juventus and Napoli against Qarabag. Elsewhere, Newcastle United travel to Marseille, Borussia Dortmund take on Villarreal, Chelsea take on Barcelona, Manchester City take on Bayer Leverkusen and Slavia Prague take on Athletic Club.
