Sky Sports has secured the rights to broadcast UEFA Europa League and Conference League matches in the UK from the start of the 2027/2028 campaign. TNT Sports currently holds the television rights to two European competitions and the Champions League.
However, the broadcaster plans to relinquish the rights to all three tournaments after 2027. Other companies are now seizing the opportunity.
Sky Sports has announced that it will cover all 342 games of the Europa League and Conference League for four years from summer 2027. Meanwhile, English clubs have had strong representation in both tournaments this season.
Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are both in the Europa League, while Crystal Palace are in the Conference League after winning the FA Cup last season. Jonathan Licht, chief sports officer at Sky Sports, said: “We are proud to once again bring European football competitions to Sky customers.
“The UEFA Europa League and Conference League have told some of the most exciting European stories in recent years, with English clubs consistently performing well and winning trophies.
“This partnership is made possible by the strength of our business model and brand as the home of sport in the UK. Fans will be able to enjoy regular domestic or European football on Sky Sports every day of the season, alongside the Premier League, EFL, SPFL, WSL and more.”
It was also confirmed that Amazon Prime will retain broadcast rights to Tuesday night’s premium Champions League match. The streaming platform has been showing tournament matches to UK viewers since 2024.
“Prime Video has secured the rights to broadcast top-flight European Champions League football in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Italy for four seasons until 2030/2031,” the company said in a statement.
“This long-term renewal reinforces Prime Video’s commitment to bringing the most famous sporting competitions to Prime members at no extra charge. Prime Video will broadcast Tuesday’s Best Match exclusively in the UK and co-exclusively in Ireland, and Wednesday’s Best Match exclusively in Germany and Italy.”
“Wednesday’s top picks also include two games on consecutive nights in the League Phase Opening Round, as well as a selection of thrilling League Phase Final Round matches. This means more can’t-miss matches for Prime members in Germany.”
“The four-year extension to 2031 follows the continued viewership success of must-see European soccer on Prime Video.”
The announcement follows reports on Thursday suggesting Paramount+ will take over from TNT Sports as the main Champions League broadcaster in the UK.
Relevent Football is understood to be conducting a bidding process for the rights, which is said to be a “very complex” operation. Bidding for broadcast rights in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France is reportedly underway at the same time.
TNT Sports has lost the rights to broadcast UEFA’s European competitions, but will continue to broadcast Premier League and FA Cup matches. The swap means supporters may need to subscribe to an additional service if they want to watch Champions League football.
