Benjamin Sesko completed his £74m move to Manchester United from RB Leipzig in the summer, but the Slovenian didn’t get off to the best start at Old Trafford
Robbie Fowler has compared Manchester United star Benjamin Sesco to an academy player as he continues to adapt to the Premier League. The Slovenian striker was signed from German side RB Leipzig for £74m in the summer.
However, he has had a slow start at Old Trafford, scoring just two goals in 12 appearances so far. And the injury sustained before the international break will likely limit him to the sidelines until at least mid-December.
For much of the summer, Benjamin Sesco and Victor Gokeres were linked with moves to United and Arsenal, with Arsenal eventually making the move to north London. Therefore, they are often compared as both are gaining speed in the English top flight.
And when Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler was asked in an interview with Adventure Gamers which striker he thought would be better suited to the league, Fowler replied that Sesco doesn’t pack a punch in his assessment. “For me, I think the obvious one is Gokeres,” he explained.
“He’s probably better suited for the Premier League and understands what it takes in terms of speed, energy and commitment. Sesco, on the other hand, is probably struggling a little bit at times. It looks a little bit, but I hope I don’t get the wrong idea, he looks a bit like an academy player.”

“There’s no question he’s a good player. No one doubts his ability, but I think Gokeres looks to be the much better equipped of the two at the moment.”
Alan Shearer was also particularly critical of Sesco, claiming that United would have expected more given the amount they paid for the forward.
He told Betfair: “One of the players who has to do more at United is Benjamin Sesco. They paid him $70 million.”
“That was a lot of money. I know it’s the market, but it was too much. He got off to a tough start and to be honest I don’t expect much from him.

“I think he’s a good player, but I don’t know if he’s any better than that. He should have scored a few more goals than he has. It was a tough start for him, especially considering the amount United paid him.”
Although Sesko was not seriously injured, he faces a long period of absence from action. He will miss this weekend’s game against Everton at Old Trafford, and will also miss upcoming games against Crystal Palace, West Ham, Wolves and Bournemouth.
Man United remain unbeaten in five games and head into this weekend’s match in seventh place in the Premier League. Joshua Zirkzee and Chido Obi are among the options available to Amorim to lead the line in Sesko’s absence.
