Manchester United have been given the green light by one of their own players to reportedly sign Wolves star Joao Gomez. United are said to be interested in signing Gomez in the January transfer window. They may only need to pay £44m to secure the Brazilian in the new year.
Gomez has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with rumors intensifying as the January transfer window approaches. United are believed to be in the market for a new midfielder, with a number of names on the list, including Carlos Bareva and Elliott Anderson.
Given the ongoing speculation, it could be wise for United to consider signing Gomez. Not only is Gomez significantly cheaper than Ruben Amorim’s other reported targets, he is also highly recommended by fellow Brazilian Mateus Cunha.
Cunha, who joined United from Wolves in the summer, has played alongside Gomez since his time at Molineux.
The 26-year-old revealed in an interview last July why he saw similarities between Gomez and United star Casemiro. Casemiro would later become his teammate for both club and country.
United’s number 10 also hinted at why Gomez would be a welcome addition to Amorim’s team, describing the midfielder as “humble” and someone who makes him feel “safe” on the pitch.
When asked about the comparison with Gomez, Cunha replied: “Maybe Casemiro. He’s a little older, but I put Casemiro’s name there to show where Joao Gomez can reach.”
“I think there is a possibility that Joao will arrive. He is very humble and works hard. Then good teams will come like a gift.”
“He’s unbelievable on the pitch,” he continued. “I feel very secure. I feel that if you have a midfielder behind you, you might lose the ball. He also played very well for the national team.”
