Jude Bellingham returned to the England squad and made headlines again on Sunday night. The Real Madrid star has returned to the Three Lions, who are on a winning streak, after several training camps where he was left out by manager Thomas Tuchel. However, his reaction when he was substituted in the final stages of the game against Albania is attracting attention.
Bellingham became a huge figure in the England squad. He has enjoyed some sensational moments, most notably when he scored in stoppage time to keep England from blushing at the last Euros. However, some of his antics have not always been well-received, with manager Tuchel claiming in the summer that his behavior was “disgusting”. Comment after U-turn.
However, Tuchel has vowed to put the England team first. He seems determined to create an environment and aspects that channel a more collective feeling, rather than one full of quality individuals.
There was never any doubt about Bellingham’s talent, but Tuchel is clearly trying to learn from past generations, when elite players were almost forced into star-studded line-ups. Going all the way back to 1966, the wait is ultimately not over. Will Bellingham often be the centerpiece of press conferences and constantly field questions about the Real star ahead of what could be Tuchel’s only tournament?
Here’s what we have to say about whether the Three Lions are ultimately better with players of their generation in Bellingham or without.

I’m starting to lean towards the England side being just as good without Bellingham. There’s no question that you have to have broad shoulders to play for Real, and some might argue that they are sometimes too broad. Bellingham accepts that, but it doesn’t seem to suit England’s camp any more than Real’s.
England were perfect, albeit against a mediocre opponent, when they chose to press without Bellingham. Tuchel has found himself in a group of players who seem to be very in tune. He has already said Bellingham, Phil Foden and Harry Kane cannot start in the same team.
He’s obviously creating a team-first atmosphere, something we haven’t seen before. There’s nothing to say that Foden or Cole Palmer couldn’t step up and be as effective as Bellingham. They don’t get a lot of attention, but that may be exactly what Tuchel is suited for going forward.

What planet would be better off without England’s best players? It just doesn’t make any sense. Bellingham is a fantastic footballer, was England’s standout player at the last Euros and has the ability to help Tuchel win the World Cup.
Yes, Bellingham was back in the headlines because he wasn’t happy with being replaced and raised his arm to throw a little ministrop. But is it really that bad? He didn’t want to get off. He played great against Albania. He was England’s best player alongside Kane and looked as if he had a point to prove.
Let’s be honest, some of the best players have egos. To stand out from the crowd, you have to be a little swaggering. Bellingham’s stardust and status are reminiscent of David Beckham. He seemed a little awkward, but it was worth it.
Bellingham saved England at last year’s Euros. Tuchel will need to demonstrate his management skills to join the team. But that’s because of his management of people. Not taking Bellingham to the World Cup and not starting him is unthinkable and would be a recipe for disaster.

Tuchel could bring 23 outfield players to the 2026 World Cup and would not rule out FIFA increasing the squad size to 30 ahead of the tournament. And, frankly, the idea that there might not be one suitable for Bellingham among the many men he’s allowed to choose from is a little ridiculous.
England would not be better off without one of the world’s most talented footballers…but the England team might be. That should be Tuchel’s only dilemma. Forget the idea that Bellingham’s actions might disrupt team harmony. Just to be clear, these are grown men.
However, despite his talent, and despite his very decent performance in Albania, the starting lineup looked more balanced when Bellingham was not. In a finals situation, the importance of impactful substitutes has never been more important.
If Bellingham has to be one of them, so be it. But he is a big game player and one way or another Tuchel will need him next summer.

Any team with Bellingham is a better team. The Real Madrid star is one of the best midfielders in the world and can win games on his own. England will need all of their most talented players if they are to hope to win the World Cup. And Bellingham is right at the top of that list.
Of course, his recent antics won’t do any good for Tuchel in particular. But if he can pull off the Bellingham-inspired performance that fans have grown accustomed to over the last few years, the potential problems might be worth putting up with.
And it’s not the first time England’s star has caused trouble. Remember when Beckham was with the Three Lions? Would England have been better off with him in the side? Of course they were – and the same is certainly true of Bellingham.

England has had a “talisman problem” for many years. A case in point is the frenzy to have mid-sized David Beckham and Wayne Rooney in the tournament. But this is a completely different situation. Bellingham is one of England’s few world-class players and without him there is no hope for next summer.
This isn’t about players being forced into teams they don’t suit, as we’ve seen with players like Phil Foden. Yes, he can flail his arms around and sure his body language may not be the best, but frankly…who cares?
This England team is no longer the brave underdog that Russia were seven years ago. They are obviously one of the favorites to win and we need to accept that. Bellingham has the aura to take the Three Lions all the way next year. The team should be built around him.

As for Bellingham, Tuchel is caught between a rock and a hard place. The Real Madrid superstar is too talented to be left out of England’s World Cup squad. However, he is also too capricious and untrustworthy.
And no manager on earth should choose a team with someone they don’t trust. Bellingham’s problem seems to be his attitude. He may have a high performance level if he chooses to do so, but his maintenance is just as high.
As he showed in Tirana, with some impressive contributions, unnecessary bookings and a thunderous look on his face when Tuchel had the audacity to drop him.
Tuchel needs to clearly communicate this to Bellingham, who is in charge of the England tour. Because it’s certainly not Bellingham – and the sooner he realizes this, the fewer problems he’ll have left.

Bellingham was on probation when he rejoined the England squad. And now Tuchel faces a decision that will define his reign as England manager – can he get the best out of Real Madrid’s superstar while maintaining his own authority?
The German said he has no intention of bringing more than four No. 10s to the World Cup, with Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Morgan Rodgers and possibly Eberechi Eze vying for the spot. If Bellingham is not first choice, why not Tuchel go for the nuclear option and employ him as an unfortunate sub? It would be a big decision, but one that Tuchel would only accept if he felt there was no other option.
England had a perfect result in qualifying, but they did not play against good teams. Bellingham is a world-class player who can change the game, like he did against Slovakia at Euro 2024. You’ll want him there for the big matches against the big teams next summer, against Argentina, France and Spain.

Let’s calm down. It’s November. A lot will happen between now and the World Cup. A draw, a friendly in March, an injury, a change in form. In fact, England reached the final and quarter-finals with Bellingham as their starter.
He’s a big game player and has turned up when England needed him before. I don’t blame Tuchel for leaving October camp while Bellingham was coming back from injury, and he’s only going to get better as the season progresses.
It will be a grueling campaign at club level, with one more round than usual, more travel, unfavorable conditions and a looming managerial crisis, making it an intense World Cup. England are no better without Bellingham. He’s definitely on the team and will probably start.
