Ibrahima Konate’s contract with Liverpool continues to expire, but the defender insists some of the media talk surrounding his future is misplaced, which is not going well with the fanbase.
Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate claims the noise surrounding his future has him “in a corner” with Liverpool supporters who “don’t know the ins and outs”.
The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, and while there is talk of an extension, there are also rumors of a move to Real Madrid. That would be the same path Trent Alexander-Arnold took over the summer.
Losing another first-team star for free will be frustrating for the Reds, where Konate is currently Virgil van Dijk’s favorite partner in the heart of defence. He signed from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has been a regular on Merseyside ever since.
Last season, Liverpool had to go ahead with the ongoing noise surrounding the departures of Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, with the latter two eventually signing new contracts.
All eyes are now on Konate, with the 26-year-old insisting that some media reports about his next move are misplaced and will ultimately have ramifications.

The Liverpool star spoke on TF1 before France’s win over Azerbaijan, a game in which Les Bleus conceded an early goal and then fought back to win. “It’s difficult. I can’t say everything because so much has already been said in the media.”
The defender also claimed that the excluded reports would not be well received by the Liverpool faithful, meaning they ultimately would not know the full story. “Some of the stuff I read was like, oh, la la,” he said. “That puts me in a bind with Liverpool fans and they don’t know everything.”
Real have been adept at exploiting the free agent market. They acquired Kylian Mbappe for free just over a year ago when he released his contract with PSG. It is well known that they are targeting Alexander-Arnold, and before that they signed Antonio Rudiger when his contract with Chelsea expired.
Liverpool pursued Marc Guehi in the summer and were chasing the Crystal Palace ace until the final hours on deadline day. His contract expires next summer, but the Eagles ultimately backed out of negotiations to sell him. The Reds had signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma, but he picked up an injury early on and was ruled out for the season.
