Benjamin Sesco is at the center of a disagreement between club and country after sustaining an injury late in Manchester United’s game against Tottenham.
The Slovenian Football Association has moved to end the club-versus-national dispute over Benjamin Sesko. The forward suffered a knee injury in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.
The player was due to join the Slovenian national team for the World Cup qualifier against Kosovo against Sweden, but did not depart for his international mission to the Slovenian Football Association headquarters in Brdo Puri Kranj on Monday, instead staying in Carrington for further treatment for an injury that is not believed to be serious.
However, Slovenia manager Matjaz Kek was furious at Sesco’s request to stay in Manchester, claiming he had been kept in the dark from United.
He demanded that his country be shown the “utmost respect” and even threatened a “diplomatic incident” because he wanted his country’s doctors to test front-line players, the Daily Mail said.
However, despite Kek’s claims, the Slovenian federation said it accepted United’s diagnosis and had received all relevant medical documents as it sought to put an end to the controversy.

“The medical team of the Slovenian national football team received on Saturday from Manchester United the complete medical documentation of Benjamin Sesko’s post-injury state of health, including his current clinical profile and the tests carried out,” a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
“Unfortunately, due to his injury, he is currently unable to participate in training. Unfortunately, Benjamin will not be able to participate in any national team activities at this time, as additional tests and treatment are scheduled to begin at the club in the coming days. We wish Benjamin a speedy recovery and a speedy return to the football field.”
United believe they followed the necessary steps in removing Sesco from the squad. But a furious Kek claimed earlier this week: “With all due respect to a great club like Manchester United, we have not received anything officially yet. We have not received any documents.”
“We would love to have them. We want our medical team to see that as well. Our physicians are experts in this field. We don’t have just people in this position. We are experts in this field. We are experts in this field.”
“I can’t comment. Of course, I have certain information and I’ve been in contact with Beni. Officially I don’t know anything, so I can’t say anything.”
“United have not contacted anyone in camp. Of course I am worried about the player. The only thing that matters to me is his health.”
He added: “The national team is very special and I expect the utmost respect from everyone.
“Slovenia deserves it, even if there’s a powerhouse like England on the other side and something special like the Premier League. After all, it’s been quite a while since England beat Slovenia and that in itself says something about us.”
