After two unsatisfying seasons that saw Andre Onana sent out on loan to Spel Lig side Trabzonspor, Lamence made a positive early impression at United.
Onana and Altai Beindir made frustrating mistakes early in the season, leaving Ruben Amorim with little choice but to rely on the inexperienced Belgian.
The 23-year-old’s bright start has earned him praise from some of the club’s greatest figures.
“The goalkeeper in particular was outstanding. He’s only played three or four games, but he seems to be doing really well.”
The shot-stopper joined from Royal Antwerp for just over £18m and has since established himself as Amorim’s first choice.
Lamence has started the last five games and, despite keeping just one clean sheet, has been central to United’s development, helping to lift them to seventh place in the table and one point out of the top four.
The goalkeeper position has been a big problem for United since David de Gea left the club in 2023.
Onana was signed as his replacement from Inter Milan for £47 million, but after two seasons he failed to stake out his claim as United’s long-term keeper.

Goalkeeping was the basis of Ferguson’s success at United, with Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar both being inspirations at Old Trafford.
It was also the Scot who signed De Gea before he retired in 2013, and the Spaniard spent 10 years as United’s number one before leaving in 2023.
Fellow summer signings Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have also impressed Ferguson.
“Obviously the new players from Wolves and Brentford, Mbeumo and Cunha, have joined that.
“I hope the manager has some success, because at United we need success. The signs are improving.”
