Manchester United are keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund’s moves. Dortmund star forward Karim Adeyemi has clashed with manager Niko Kovac over negotiations over his departure.

Manchester United are reportedly on high alert over the possibility of signing Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi. The fleet-footed forward has endured a difficult period at Dortmund and has concerns as the January transfer window approaches.

United spent more than £200m on the signings of Benjamin Sesco, Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window. The move has completely overhauled the front line, with Ruben Amorim starting to feel the benefits after a period of improved form.

However, the club continues to look for potential new players and Adeyemi’s situation at Dortmund has caught their attention. The 23-year-old rose to prominence as a teenager with Red Bull Salzburg and has been at Dortmund for three years, but reports in Germany suggest there is a rift in their relationship.

Adeyemi has scored three goals and provided three assists in 14 appearances this season, and has recently clashed with manager Niko Kovac. He threw a bottle onto the bench after being substituted in last month’s 1-0 win over Cologne, an act that drew a public rebuke from coach Kovac.

“I think it’s unnecessary,” the Dortmund manager said. “It’s good to be angry sometimes, but it’s unnecessary, he’s an adult.” Kovac was clearly unhappy with his performance in the 1-1 draw with Hamburg at the weekend, but things reportedly got out of hand.

Bild newspaper reports that negotiations over Adeyemi’s long-term future at the club are “in full swing” behind the scenes. The player’s contract currently runs until June 2027, but his new agent Jorge Mendes is seeking new terms, including a £70m release clause.

Mendes is known for orchestrating big-money transfers and United are well aware of him, with the Portuguese agent having been instrumental in United’s signings of Lenny Yolo and Manuel Ugarte in recent years.

Adeyemi is known for his eye-catching speed and can play on either wing. He has scored 29 goals and provided 22 assists in 121 appearances for Dortmund, and United will be keeping an eye on how their relationship with Kovac develops in the coming weeks.

After Dortmund’s recent 4-1 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League, Kovac sought to find positives from Adeyemi’s performance, which he played for 81 minutes at the Etihad Stadium. “I would like to say in general that the quality of the passing that City showed was better than us,” he said.

“Karim had some moments but he didn’t succeed. He lacked precision and accuracy. But I’m happy that he took his first chance.”

United are thought to be prioritizing the signing of a central midfielder in the January transfer window, with Adam Wharton, Elliott Anderson and Carlos Baleva among the players they admire.
