World Cup runner-up Dayot Upamecano is approaching the final six months of his contract with Bayern Munich and is one of a number of candidates Liverpool could consider signing him next year.
Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano has revealed he intends to make the “right decision” about his future ahead of a lot of interest. The French defender’s contract expires next summer and European giants are circling over a possible free transfer.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are reportedly interested, with the latter entering a period of uncertainty. Ibrahima Konate’s Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season and Los Blancos are interested, while long-time target Marc Guehi is also set to become a free agent and has been linked with Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund central defender Nico Schlotterbeck is under contract until 2027, but it seems unlikely that he will sign a new contract. That could pique the interest of teams in the same group and add an element of complexity.
Upamecano is focused on football and has entrusted his future to his agent, Moussa Sissoko. He has “deep ties” to PSG and is a supporter of players such as Ousmane Dembele.
Upamecano told L’Equipe: “My agent is taking care of me. We will make the right decision.”

“I’m getting good advice. I’m focused on this season and my goals for club and country. I can’t afford to think about that.”
“I am completely relaxed. I have a contract with FC Bayern and I have goals. But I would be very grateful if a club were interested in me.”
Liverpool were set to sign top target Guehi in the summer transfer window, but the deal fell through on deadline day. Liverpool accepted an offer of £35m, but Crystal Palace suddenly decided not to sell at 11pm.
Guehi will be free to pre-sign with foreign clubs when the January transfer window opens, so Liverpool could lose out and have to cast their net even further. Upamecano could still be an option.
However, Bayern manager Max Eberl is not willing to give up on Upamecano’s future in Germany without a fight. “It’s normal for other clubs to call his agent. That’s part of the game,” Hebert said after the match against PSG.
“I have already said that I would like to do my best to sign a new contract and we intend to do so.”
