Former Chelsea star Oscar is said to be considering retiring after losing consciousness during training in Sao Paulo and being diagnosed with a heart abnormality in hospital.
Former Chelsea midfielder Óscar may be forced to retire after falling unconscious during training due to a heart problem, reports from his native Brazil have said.
Oscar’s last appearance for Sao Paulo was against Corinthians in August, when he broke a vertebrae after just 20 minutes. Since then, he has only been on the bench twice. The 34-year-old is believed to have fallen ill while using a stationary bike during a training session on Tuesday and was rushed to hospital.
Oscar is said to have been monitored for a heart condition for several months after he showed signs of abnormalities during an examination for a broken bone. Global Esporte states that the hospital questioned São Paulo about the matter at the time, but the midfielder was deemed fit to continue playing.
The club said in a statement on Tuesday that Oscar “displayed symptoms associated with cardiac changes” and “the club’s specialists and the medical team at Israel Einstein Hospital responded immediately.”
“The player was subsequently taken to hospital, where he is now in a stable condition and is being kept under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis. In accordance with standard protocols, respecting the player’s privacy and in agreement with Oscar, further information will be released as updates are received from the medical team.”

Oscar returned to Brazil in 2012 when he signed a three-year contract with São Paulo, the club he played for before moving to Chelsea. He made the move in December last year and expressed his excitement to be returning “home” to the club where it all started.
The midfielder’s Champions League success saw him move to Stamford Bridge, where he won the title three years later under Jose Mourinho.
In 2016, he made a surprise move to Shanghai Port for £60 million, which ultimately saw him leave west London. Blues manager Antonio Conte criticized his move at a time when the Chinese Super League was spending huge amounts of money on big-name players.
Oscar spent a huge spell with Shanghai Port, winning three CSL titles, as well as the Chinese FA Cup and Super Cup. At the time he was reportedly receiving a weekly salary of £400,000. The Brazilian made 248 appearances for the club, scoring 77 goals and adding 141 assists.
