Cristiano Ronaldo has outlined how long he will continue playing club football after admitting the USA World Cup will be his last chance to win the title.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s career may finally be coming to an end. The Portugal legend has already admitted that the World Cup in the United States will be his last, and admits he may only have a few years left in his playing career.
That leaves the 40-year-old Portugal international with some time to make his final twists and turns before turning his attention from the field to club ownership. But for now, Ronaldo is keen to live in the moment.
Asked about his future in an interview on Tuesday, Ronaldo, who told Piers Morgan Uncensored last week that he would retire “soon”, initially joked that by “soon” he meant “within 10 years”, before adding: “When I say soon, I mean… I’m really enjoying the moment. As you know in football, when you reach a certain age you count the months very quickly.
“So, I feel good right now. I feel very good at the moment. I scored a goal and I still feel fast and sharp. I’m enjoying playing with the national team and with Al Nasr. But of course, to be honest, when I say ‘soon’ I mean it’s probably a year or two before I’ll be able to play.”
“As I said before, I’m enjoying the moment, but when I say soon, I mean really close, because I’ve given everything for football. I’ve been playing games and done everything for the last 25 years. I’ve made a lot of records in different scenarios for club and country. I’m really proud,” he added.

Ronaldo is contracted to Al Nasr until the end of his 42nd birthday, after signing a two-year deal worth at least £492m in 2025. That suggests the Saudi Pro League team will be his last team.
But can the five-time Ballon d’Or winner ignore his mother’s wishes? Dolores Aveiro dreams of her son and grandson plying their trade together in Portugal before Ronaldo ends his career.
In 2022, Aveiro declared that he would like to see Ronaldo return to his first club, Sporting CP. The patriarch told him the same thing.
She told a Portuguese magazine: “Cristiano has to come back here. If it were up to me, he would come back already. I already said to him: “Son, before I die, I want to see you play for Sporting again.”
“It didn’t happen this year, but maybe next year it will. But if not him, it would be Cristiano. At his age, he plays better than his father. When Cristiano was 12 years old, Cristiano did not have a trainer, but now he is his son’s teacher.”
The 67-year-old said in an interview with Nova Gente: “He has already said, ‘If I ever live in Lisbon, Dad, I want to play for Sporting. It’s my dream to see them play together at the club.'”
