David Brooks feared he wouldn’t be able to become a father when he was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October 2021, but the Bournemouth star’s wife Flora has given birth.
Bournemouth winger David Brooks has become a father for the first time after his wife Flora gave birth last month. Brooks, 28, revealed in June that he and Flora are expecting their first child.
The Wales international has spoken of how lucky he has been since being diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s lymphoma four years ago. Brooks returned to football in March 2023 and became a regular for Bournemouth, helping them re-establish themselves as Premier League mainstays and progress towards Europe.
Off the pitch, Brooks and Flora married in North Yorkshire last summer and are happily married. We are now the third girl in our family.
Brooks shared a photo of Lottie Elizabeth via Instagram on Tuesday. “Our beautiful baby girl was born October 27, 2019, Lottie Elizabeth Brooks, a special addition to our family @florabrooks_ we love you,” he wrote as the caption.
Earlier this year, Brooks admitted he was worried he wouldn’t become a father, saying: “When I was diagnosed, I talked about that, but there was no guarantee that I would ever be able to have children.

“It could have been impossible. I was really lucky that it happened naturally. After the treatment, everything went back to normal. I’m really happy.”
“I’ve always wanted to have a family. My wife and I both knew we wanted to have children someday. In my situation it was out of my hands, so I’m so happy that everything happened naturally and we were able to become a family.”
“I’m really looking forward to it and I know my wife is too, even though she’s pregnant and going through a lot. I’m happy. I teared up a little bit, but I’m really looking forward to it now. It’s still a few months away, but I can’t wait.”

Brooks has made 11 appearances for Bournemouth this season, registering one assist and captaining the team on multiple occasions. The Cherries have made a strong start to the season but have only won two of their last seven games.
Brooks is now focused on helping Wales in their World Cup qualifiers. With two games left, there is still a chance they can finish Group J in first place and automatically qualify.
However, a place in the play-offs is more likely and if Craig Bellamy’s side beat Liechtenstein away on Saturday, Tuesday’s home game against North Macedonia will effectively become a direct shootout for second place and a play-off spot. Wales will also hope that results in other groups, particularly Poland, go well and they can become top seeds when the play-offs begin in March.
