Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford was instrumental in Barcelona’s 4-2 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Sunday night
Marcus Rashford once again showed what Manchester United were trying to hide. Barcelona’s lone star contributed two assists as the Spanish giants secured a thrilling 4-2 La Liga victory over Celta Vigo at the Balaidos Stadium on Sunday night.
Robert Lewandowski scored the opening goal within the first 15 minutes, firing past Ionut Radu from the penalty spot. Moments later, Sergio Carreira took advantage of Hansi Flick’s infamous offside trap to devastating effect to equalize.
This equalizing goal came shortly after Rashford missed a golden chance, but his cross was guided into goal by Lewandowski late in the second half, and Rashford responded well. However, Celta Vigo hit back again with Borja Iglesias firing a shot past Wojciech Szczesny.

Lamine Yamal gave the Catalan team important space at half-time and scored deep in stoppage time. United’s ace turned creator again, threading the ball to Barcelona’s genius player at the far post.
Lewandowski secured victory in the second period, completing the treble with a delicate header from Rashford’s corner kick. Flick’s side cut their lead over their rivals in the title race to just three points as Rayo Vallecano held Real Madrid to a stalemate.
After the match, Rashford commemorated the result with a triumphant Instagram post, which had racked up nearly half a million likes by Tuesday morning.
“Three more points are important. We continue to work as a team,” the England ace wrote.
Manchester United stars David de Gea and Bruno Fernandes were among the thousands of fans who liked the post. Barcelona coach Flick was satisfied with his team’s performance over the weekend.
“Yes (I’m satisfied),” he told ESPN.
“I’m very grateful for what we saw today. At the moment, especially in the first half, we made some mistakes, more than in the second half. And they took advantage of that. Two mistakes for goals.”
“But what I saw was that we controlled the game even in the first half. It was a really good game on the ball and our defense was better, especially in the second half.”
“I think the second half will give us confidence for the next game. That’s what we need. If we can put pressure on the opponent, that’s a good way to go. We did that. I like what we saw, especially in the second half.”
Earlier this month, Rashford vowed to improve his game even further, and that has certainly happened. In an interview with Spain’s Mundo Deportivo earlier this month, the 28-year-old said:
“We could have done better against Elche. We are not completely satisfied with our overall performance, so we promise to improve. We will work hard to win. We will take it one game at a time.”
“We have to continue to play as a team. This is Barça and the demands must always be the highest.”
