Manchester United will institute new guidelines for staff to give them more control over what goes out of the club’s most private spaces.
Manchester United are cracking down on what their staff share on social media. The Red Devils want to keep their behind-the-scenes activities private and will crack down on “self-promotional” content posted.
United want greater control over content published from within the club amid concerns over content being leaked without authorization. New guidelines will reportedly be provided to staff outlining what club-related content is not appropriate to share on personal channels.
Club bosses are said to believe too much unauthorized content is being released into the public domain by staff with access to the first team. Telegraph Sport reports that while United don’t want to be ‘killjoys’, they don’t think it would be unreasonable to have stricter rules for content within the club.
It is noted that the club has never had a problem with staff sharing official content that they have posted. However, this move is said to have been controversial.
Some argue that highlighting pride in one’s work at a club on social media is a positive thing to do, and that moves to limit it go too far. Some have suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign will come with stricter scrutiny of what is published.

United sporting director Jason Wilcox recently spoke about the culture the club aims for across its staff. “At the heart of it is our employees, and that’s really important,” Wilcox said.
“I have a saying: Feel like a family, perform like a team. If you can create this atmosphere where you feel like a family and can have honest conversations, you can give feedback, you can get new ideas, and no one is offended. This is the environment we are trying to create.”
Manchester United supporters are being offered the chance to tour the club’s new Carrington training facility, despite a crackdown on spills from the club’s internal facilities. It will be part of the Old Trafford Stadium Tour.
United fans will have access to the players’ lounge, as well as the changing rooms, gym, recovery area and press conference room. However, photography of United’s inner sanctuaries will not be permitted.
The £50m hub will open in August, with tours due to arrive at the end of the season. The season begins in June, when players depart for the World Cup. The club plans to charge adults aged over 65 and under 16 £100.
