Manchester United could enter the transfer market in January, with Benjamin Sesco’s injury forcing him to sign a new striker in Ruben Amorim to address the team’s absence
Benjamin Sesco’s injury could put Manchester United in a dilemma in the coming weeks. The summer signing came off the bench against Tottenham, but a knee injury suffered in the closing stages of the dramatic draw saw the Red Devils reduced to 10 men.
It remains to be seen how serious the Slovenian international’s problems are, but United may yet have to make a decision. Sesco is the team’s only versatile striker.
Ruben Amorim has opted to start alongside Matheus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo and Amad, having previously used Mason Mount up front. United’s top scorer Mbeumo is due to head to the African Cup of Nations soon and the Portuguese manager may soon find himself lacking.
The 40-year-old has confirmed that a move will be considered in January. “We have to check everything, we have to check what happened to Ben,” Amorim said.
“Of course there will be problems there[at AFCON]but we already knew. We can prepare for it in the summer, but it’s one game a week and there are a lot of players who won’t play in the summer. So it will be difficult to manage that situation.”

“But let’s see if we can improve the team and prepare for what happened when the window opens. Until then, we have to take our chances.”
If United were to delve into the market in January, where would they look? Mirror Football takes a look.
Dusan Vlahovic
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serbian forward will become a free agent at the end of the season and Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Tottenham are all interested in signing him. Manchester United have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old and the Red Devils could win the race to sign him if they make an early move.
Blachowicz continues to feature for Juventus, who are struggling this season, scoring six goals in 15 games. The Italian side may be hoping to earn a transfer fee, but they will be losing their starting striker.
Vitor Roque
Manchester United are said to be ‘most interested’ in signing Vitor Roque ahead of a number of other suitors. Clubs are looking to sign the Palmeiras striker, with those close to the player said to be hoping for a bid worth 44 million euros (approximately 3.8 billion yen) in the January transfer window.
The forward has scored 13 goals in 28 games since returning to the Brazilian side from Barcelona. Roque, 20, was transferred for around £22 million early last year, making him the most expensive player in South American football history.
ollie watkins
Ollie Watkins hasn’t had a season where transfer rumors abound. The forward has scored just one goal in 11 Premier League appearances and missed out on a recent England squad.
United have been linked before, and Villa also appear open to offloading their striker. Price has proven to have issues in the past, but perhaps Watkins’ form could give the Red Devils an advantage.
The Midlands side are reportedly already in the market for a new ‘top-class’ striker, and if they are ready to spend big again, Watkins could meet United’s desire for Premier League experience.
endrik
Real Madrid forward Endrik (19) appears to be on track to move in January. The Brazilian is said to be on track for Lyon’s winter campaign, with the Portuguese coach proving an advantage as they have a common language.
United are not yet on the brink of a transfer, but Amorim could provide similar help in adapting. This would allow United to take advantage of a loan that is more suited to the current situation.
