Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League, winless and without a manager, and Alan Shearer believes the talent they hire will have a near-impossible job of keeping them afloat.
Alan Shearer has admitted that the next Wolves manager will have an “almost impossible task to keep them” as the Midlands club remain winless and look for a replacement for Vitor Pereira.
Wolves opted to sack the Portuguese manager after their defeat to Fulham last weekend. This left them in last place without a win, with 10 points left and only 2 points left. If we are to survive from here, we need to make Premier League history.
Molineux authorities have appointed caretakers James Collins and Richard Walker to take charge of the trip to Stamford Bridge as the search continues. Talks over Gary O’Neill’s return failed to materialise, with rumors emerging that Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards was linked with the post.
Shearer criticized the club for not replacing two key players who left in the summer, and admitted whoever takes charge will have a tough job ahead of them. They recovered £93 million in that time.
He spoke to Betfair ahead of his trip to west London. “Chelsea will be too much for Wolves. They performed badly last weekend and the manager paid the price by losing his job. They have not appointed a manager yet. Whoever comes in there, it will be an almost impossible task to keep them. There is no player in the team that would give them any hope of avoiding relegation.”

“The club did nothing by not replacing Cunha or Ait Nouri. They can only be blamed for their lack of preparation, but I also don’t see the fight or ability to say they can avoid relegation this year.”
Cunha was a key player for Wolves last season and was always linked to a possible departure. He signed a new contract in January, which contained a release clause that allowed Manchester United to attack. Meanwhile, Ait Nouri headed to the blue half of Manchester.
Wolves have been in the top flight since they were promoted in 2018, but now they have to worry about relegation each season. Just last week, they lost to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup in a close seven-goal game, and another defeat in the league could set them further apart from the pack.
As it stands, the Wolves are eight points away from safety. Pereira’s sacking comes just 45 days after he signed a new three-year contract, which came at a time when Wolves were bottom of the league. The Molineux side remain the only unbeaten side in England’s top four divisions.
