Liverpool lose to Manchester City at the Etihad, with Reds manager Arne Slott admits the title gap to league leaders may already be too large Arsenal
Arne Slott fears Liverpool have already destroyed their title defense after just 11 games into the Premier League season. The English champions suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad.
Liverpool have suffered their fifth loss in their last six games and are languishing in eighth place in the table. Liverpool are already eight points behind leaders Arsenal. And Slott believes his men have lost too much to be considered serious contenders to retain the throne.
A disappointed Slott said: “I feel like it’s too much. The last thing we need to talk about is the title race. We should focus on getting result after result. We’re currently eighth and one team is well ahead, while City are four points behind Arsenal.”
“The last thing we have to focus on is fighting for the title. We did it last season, we couldn’t do it the season before. We need to improve, that’s clear.”

City outscored their rivals from start to finish and it was a great day for Josep Guardiola, who played his 1,000th game as manager. Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku moved City into second place, four points behind Arsenal.
And Guardiola admitted that victory was the best present on his special day. Guardiola said: “The players gave me a good present with this performance against the champions.
“We had to perform well and a lot of good things happened and everyone performed at the highest level. So I just want to thank the players and the behind-the-scenes staff for the gift they gave me. I’m proud to be able to do it here in Manchester with my city.”
“It was very special for me to play my 1,000th game in front of my family, especially against Liverpool. I have a lot of respect for that club.”
