Chelsea achieved an overwhelming victory over Wolves thanks to the performances of Maro Gusto, João Pedro and Pedro Neto, and achieved consecutive Premier League wins. The Blues enjoyed a comfortable win over London rivals Tottenham last weekend, but missed out on qualification in the Champions League earlier this week after drawing 2-2 with Qarabag.
Enzo Maresca made one change to his starting XI for the league game, with Liam Delap replacing Reece James and Joao Pedro dropping to the number 10 position. Chelsea should have taken the lead in the first half with Alejandro Garnacho and Enzo Fernandes forcing some early saves from Sam Johnstone, but their pressure soon got through.
In the space of 21 minutes in the second half, the West Londoners scored three times before Gusto scored the first goal and Pedro brought home the second. Neto then followed up his first goal for the club on Wednesday night in Azerbaijan with two assists to turn home Argentine Alejandro Garnacho’s cross.
Marc Giu had a chance to add to Chelsea’s advantage off the bench, but was unable to convert the rebound from Joao Pedro’s shot and convert Estevao’s powerful cross into the box. Here’s how we rated Chelsea’s players’ performance against Wolves.
Robert Sanchez
Maintained superiority in the air. I was able to grasp Jackson Chatchoa’s fascinating first-half development. 7.
Malo Gusto
He scored the first goal. He delivered some threatening crosses into the box and struggled despite twisting his ankle. 7.
Trevor Chalobah
There was a strange header in the first half. They could have scored, but they could have kept them away from the goal. The defense is also solid. 7.
Wesley Fofana.
Covered Maro Gusto’s slip in the second half. He has returned to the starting lineup and is gradually regaining his form. 7.
Marc Cucurella.
Although he had a solid game, he faced a tough challenge as Jackson Ciaccia was constantly in the way on Wolves’ right flank. 7.
Moises Caicedo
Please show us another strong performance. They kept the Wolves’ counter-attack threat at bay. He received a yellow card for a cynical pull, but overall it was another impressive midfield performance. 8.
Enzo Fernandez
The first half was outstanding. He made some great passes and almost scored directly from a corner kick. He kept Chelsea on the upswing. 8.
Pedro Neto
sharp. He drove with the ball and looked dangerous from start to finish. His performance was on full display and he deservedly scored the third goal. 8.
joan pedro
The first half was a little shaky. Although they missed a clear chance, they recovered in the second half and scored their second goal. He is always involved in every Blues attack. 7.
Alejandro Garnacho
Recorded 2 assists. Chelsea’s outstanding player. Maro Gusto and Pedro Neto delivered two excellent crosses, one high and one low, both of which found the back of the net. 8.
Liam Delap
It has been a disappointing start to his career since suffering a hamstring injury against Fulham in August. He was replaced by Estevao in the 64th minute. 6.
Substitute:
Estevao
Incredibly sharp. He assisted on a goal just 68 seconds into the game. It’s truly an amazing talent. 8.
Reece James
He was given a rest, but when he came on for the final 12 minutes, the crowd shouted his name. His presence also allowed Chelsea to keep a clean sheet. 7.
Marc Giu
He missed a golden opportunity after coming on for Joao Pedro. 6.
Andrei Santos and Andrei Santos
