Highlights: Spurs deny stunning come-from-behind win with De Ligt equalizer in final gasp

With 10 minutes remaining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it would have been logical to assume that Manchester United would aim for a customary 1-0 win.
Xavi Simmons had just been replaced by Matthijs Tell, to loud boos from the home crowd, and Spurs were struggling to test Senne Lamence inside United’s goal.
What followed was the most entertaining 16 minutes of football so far this season, as momentum shifted back and forth between two of the Premier League’s most iconic teams.
With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the key moments from United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Mbeumo scores again

Brian Mbeumo, who was recently named Premier League Player of the Month for October, has impressed once again.

The summer signing from Brentford scored his fifth Premier League goal in 11 appearances this season, heading in Amad Diallo’s cross past Guglielmo Vicario.

The Red Devils continued to control the game well until the 79th minute, when Thomas Frank made an incredibly dangerous substitution.

Spurs fans furious

After last week’s 1-0 defeat at Chelsea, some Tottenham fans booed the team off the field, and things appeared to be heading in the same direction against United.

Some Spurs fans reacted negatively to Frank’s decision to bring on Tell for Simmons in the 79th minute.

This decision was met with boos from the home side.

Frank was proven right.

Tottenham fans’ frustration turned to jubilation within five minutes.

Tell got on the ball inside the penalty area, made a nice turn and fired the ball past Rammens.

This made it 1-1 with six minutes left in stoppage time, but Spurs refused to settle for a draw.

Richarlison sets North London on fire

Richarlison glanced Wilson Odbert’s long-range shot past Lamence to make it 2-1 in the first minute of stoppage time.

The goal clearly meant the world to the Brazilian forward.

He has received his fair share of criticism in recent months and was visibly emotional after scoring what would have been the game-winner.

But that wasn’t the case.

United side out for 10 games due to Sesco injury

Spurs needed to go one step further to take the three points and were given a big boost after United’s Benjamin Sesco appeared to be injured.

Ruben Amorim had already used up all five substitutes, resulting in his team being reduced to 10 players with only a short time left in the game.

But who needs 10 players when you have Matthijs de Ligt?

De Ligt rescues

Despite surrendering the lead and being down to 10 men, United managed to snatch a point from the brink of defeat.

The equalizer came from an unlikely source: De Ligt.

The Dutch defender was part of Ajax, who lost to Spurs in the 2019 UEFA Champions League semi-finals thanks to a second-half goal from Lucas Moura.

He finally got his revenge, denying Frank’s team all three points with a stunning header that ended a thrilling match.
