Manchester United were denied a chance to move up to second place in the Premier League, but continued their unbeaten run in dramatic style with a 2-2 draw with Tottenham. United were leading 1-0 by the 83rd minute, but shortly after late goals from Matthijs Tell and Richarlison for Spurs looked like they might lose 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, until Matthijs de Ligt denied the hosts victory.

The Red Devils took the lead in the 32nd minute after Brian Mbeumo’s close-range header broke through a poor Spurs defence. But Spurs substitute Tell finished with a fine touch in the 84th minute, before Richarlison sparked a rowdy scene with a header in the first minute of stoppage time. However, despite being reduced to 10 men through injury, United responded brilliantly, with centre-back De Ligt saving a goal in the 96th minute. Express Sport rates and predicts United’s squad in the capital…

Manchester United vs Tottenham player ratings

Senne Ramens – 8

He bounced back from his early mistakes and made some great saves in the second half to deny Sergio Romero and Joao Parinha. Nothing could be done about the target.

Matthijs de Ligt – 7

He defended well in the box until Matthijs Tell scored, but his shot was deflected off the Dutchman and into the goal. He scored a towering header in stoppage time to make it 2-2.

Harry Maguire – 7

His promising return to the team ended sooner than expected due to a hamstring injury, and he limped off the pitch with 18 minutes remaining.

Luke Shaw – 6

After Romero got into scoring position, he was bailed out by Ramence, but still had a good performance overall. He helped create the space for De Ligt to score from a corner.

Nouser Mazrawi – 6

He returned to the starting lineup and played a good 58 minutes.

Casemiro – 7

In the other match, the Brazilian led by example in midfield, stopping play multiple times before being substituted.

Bruno Fernandes – 5

Although he contributed to winning the ball with a press that led to the opening goal, his overall performance was well below his level and he was frequently caught on the ball. He had a great chance to make it 2-0, but his shot went over the bar. In the end, he made a corner assist to turn things around.

Patrick Dorg – 5

He defended pretty well against Brennan Johnson, but he needs to improve his final product going forward. His crosses are so wasteful. I made a reservation.

Amado Diallo – 7

He left his role as right wing-back and provided a deft floating cross and a great pass that set up Mbeumo’s header. He could have done more to stop the cross for Spurs’ equaliser, but he is still one of United’s best players.

Matheus Cunha – 5

He played more centrally than Benjamin Sesco, but he really struggled. We held the ball too long and lost it too many times.

Brian Mbeumo – 7

Despite being moved out of his natural position on the left wing, he scored his sixth goal in a United shirt with a controlled header, producing a truly intelligent touch and contribution. He’s just a very good soccer player.

substitute

Benjamin Sesko (Mazrawi 58) – 5

We should have done better with a late chance, but we allowed Micky van de Ven to turn it over. At that moment he was sent off for a knock, leaving United down to 10 men.

Mason Mount (Cunha 72) – 6

The assist should have come after Sesco was released.

Yoro Lenny (Maguire 72) – 6

Moved to centre-forward as United chased him

Manuel Ugarte (Casemiro 72) – 5

His defense after entering the game was not good, which led to the goal conceded.

Diogo Dalot (Dorgu 80) – N/A
