England manager Thomas Tuchel has sacked five players from his England squad, leaving Jack Grealish out again for the upcoming international break. The Everton star has continued to shine in the Premier League this season, but has not made an international appearance since 2024.
One man who has returned to the team after his sudden absence last time is Jude Bellingham. The Three Lions won all six of their qualifying matches and have already confirmed their place in next summer’s World Cup. Tuchel’s side are yet to concede a goal and will hope to continue their good form against Serbia and Latvia.
England won 5-0 against Serbia last time out, their best performance since Tuchel replaced Gareth Southgate earlier this year. In March, they defeated Albania 2-0 with goals from Miles Lewis-Skelly and Harry Kane.
Since joining Everton on loan from Manchester City, Grealish has rediscovered the form that once made him one of England’s most threatening players. Under manager David Moyes, the 30-year-old contributed five goals in nine Premier League games.
Grealish last featured for England in October 2024, when he scored in a 3-1 win away to Finland. After losing his place in the City squad, he was left out of the Euro 2024 squad by manager Gareth Southgate.
Elsewhere, Tuchel has made some further changes to the squad, this time with five players from the October squad missing. The players sacked by Tuchel were Lewis Skelly, Ollie Watkins, James Trafford, Morgan Gibbs-White and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
However, Bellingham, who had been left out of the October lineup, returned from injury and joined the lineup.
A surprise addition was Bournemouth’s Alex Scott. The versatile midfielder has impressed for the Cherries this season and was previously a regular in England’s youth teams. Nick Pope, Reece James, Bellingham, Phil Foden
Adam Wharton, who has been in good form at Crystal Palace, has also been added. The 21-year-old has only played once for his country, making no substitute appearances during the Euro 2024 campaign.
On the defensive end, Nico O’Reilly, Jarrell Quansah and Jed Spence are looking to maintain their spots and secure seats on the plane to North America. In addition to Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson and Morgan Rodgers have also been named.
