Rob Edwards’ future at Middlesbrough is in serious doubt as Wolves have made him their top head coach target to replace sacked manager Vitor Pereira, and he currently remains in limbo after the club canceled Friday afternoon’s press conference.
Rob Edwards’ position at Middlesbrough is in jeopardy after a press conference scheduled for Friday afternoon was abruptly canceled following interest from Wolves.
Wolves have identified Edwards as their favorite to replace Vitor Pereira, who was made available last weekend after a winless start to the season.
The Premier League side initially approached Boro to talk to Edwards, but the club refused as they were keen to retain their head coach.
But doubts over Edwards’ future deepened after the club canceled its normally scheduled press conference at Rockliffe from 1pm on Friday to preview Boro’s Championship showdown with Birmingham City.

It is currently unclear whether Edwards or someone else will take charge of Boro’s side in Saturday’s Championship match against Birmingham City at the Riverside.
With negotiations ongoing with club executives, it seems increasingly unlikely that Edwards will lead the team.
According to reports from the Midlands, Mr Edwards was open to taking on the role at Molineux. His family still live in the area and have strong ties to the club, both as players and coaches, Teesside Live reports.
However, he is only four months into his three-year contract with Boro. If he leaves, Boro will demand hefty compensation.
Boro were confident Edwards was committed to the club and would be prepared to turn down an offer from Wolves, but this latest development suggests there may be more to the story.
If there was no truth in it, this press conference may have given Mr. Edwards a chance to finally finish the story.
